Avoid Mutt Manor! We took our dog Charlie to Mutt Manor in Bridgeville while we went out of town for a few days. On the third day, they called to say that Charlie had scratched his paw on a door at the facility. When Mutt Manor first reported this to us, we were led to believe that the injury was minor but that they thought it would be best to take him to the vet. However, when we subsequently talked to the vet and they provided us with photos of his injury before they stitched him, it was evident to us that his injury was not minor but rather a severe laceration requiring several stitches and would not heal easily. Mutt Manor did not contact us to take him to the vet until the day after his injury. As a result, he spent an entire day/night bleeding and free to pick on his injury which likely worsened the initial injury in the process. When we picked him up, he did not have his wound bandaged despite explicit instructions from the vet that it was very important that he stayed bandaged. We took him back to the vet and they had to reclose the wound with staples. At this point, I was very upset and I posted on this site asking for advice. It was only after this post that Mutt Manor called us. They told us it was Charlie’s fault that he had hurt himself and it was our vet’s fault the bandages came off because they must not have done it right, i.e., they put the blame on everyone except themselves. First of all, my dog never should have been placed in a situation where he could hurt himself like that. Second, every bandage that our vet put on our dog since then has stayed on perfectly so we can only assume that his initial bandage came off due to additional negligence on Mutt Manor’s part. Thirdly, Mutt Manor didn’t show any interest in how Charlie was recovering – we only heard from them after my post asking for advice. It took Charlie 3.5 weeks to recover from this injury. During this time, he was not allowed to go on walks and had to wear a cone the entire time. As you can imagine, this was very hard on Charlie, who is normally very active dog. We had to take Charlie to the vet every couple of days to get a clean bandage put on and ensure he was healing properly, and ended up paying over $1,300 in veterinarian bills. On April 18th, we sent Mutt Manor our veterinary bills and asked them to reimburse us. They did not respond. I feel we have a responsibility to warn our neighbors about this place and their treatment of Charlie. If it could happen to our baby Charlie, I feel like it could happen to your pet. I rate this business 0 stars and warn all of you to beware. There are plenty of other reputable dog boarders in our area to choose from. Avoid this one.
