Matthew sat for me at a time of major transition. I had only been in my new apartment 12 days before he arrived. He was excellent with the cats and was very helpful in letting in workers to install a kitchen and being on hand to receive the internet router since all of those things hadn't yet been settled by the time he arrived. For him I'm sure it was a bit annoying to be in an apartment that was not yet fully functional, though I explained all of this to him before he accepted the sit. He left the bathroom clean but the couch was covered in cereal crumbs, scuff marks on the freshly painted walls where his luggage was and where he parked my bike (which I offered for him to use). The most alarming part was coming home to my bed being completely stripped. I offered him the couch to sleep on since it folds out into a large bed. It was unclear what was clean and what wasn't and my fitted sheet was bleached in spots and now has a hole in it. I also did not offer my bed and was alarmed that he used it without asking. One of the cat's bowls was also chipped. As I am settling into this apartment with not much in the way of household items, it was very frustrating to find things broken and damaged without replacement. We also agreed that Matthew would come the evening of the 13th since I needed to leave very early on the morning of the 14th. On the night of the 12th, I got a call from him saying the Airbnb he booked turned out to be a scam. I offered him to come to my place since it was late and raining even though the timing wasn't great for me. I had a major test the next day and explained the need for quiet and space. As soon as the lights went out, he proceeded to loudly chew through a box of cereal. I asked him to stop, he did for the moment but then later resumed. I think I only slept two hours that night and was pretty angry that I went out of my way to help someone out who clearly wasn't respecting me or my space. He apologized the next morning and agreed not to eat that next night but then did it again anyway. Overall it wasn't a great experience - quite honestly for either of us I'm sure. He did a wonderful job with my fur babies and for that I'm truly grateful. He does care a lot for animals and my cats seemed happy with him.
