What a dream sit! Belle and Gil's home was just a few minutes away from the ocean, the perfect place to enjoy long thoughtful walks on the beach and coastal views. Belle and Gil warmly welcomed us with baked goods and dinner and made us feel immediately at home. They are just lovely and kind people. Leo was very easy to take care of, very sweet and mellow and we enjoyed accompanying him on his walks. We will miss his calm presence in the home and his adorable enthusiasm for his walks and breakfast. One of the best parts of visiting Santa Barbara has been hearing about how much the residents love living here, and all of the parts that make it such a special place to live. The feeling we got when speaking with Gil and Belle was no exception. We are already looking forwards to visiting again, and highly recommend this sit for anyone who wants to explore the best of what Santa Barbara has to offer.
If you are looking for an enchanting stay in quiet, rural surroundings with two delightful -and very different - dogs, then you will love sitting for Wendy, Red and Tink. The house is amazing with Wendy's artistic flair evident everywhere. It's also warm and comfortable, easy to live in. Wendy has been super easy to communicate with, always responding quickly to our questions. The only difficulty for us was getting around without a car. The nearest train station is in Luxulyan, around 30 minutes walk away, sometimes across fields and/or a potentially muddy path. We had filtered our search on "Accessible by public transport" as we hoped to be able to get out and explore. We've suggested that Wendy remove that tag. If you have your own car or if you are happy to hole up in the countryside for a while, we can really recommend this sit. Wendy will do everything she can to make it a great experience for you. The sit was extended by several days by mutual agreement, so it actually ran from 2-8 July.
Tucker is a very sweet and playful lab. He was quiet for a little bit, probably wondering when his parents would be back. Once the rain stopped and we took him out for a walk, he really perked up. He happily jumped in and out of the car to go exploring Santa Barbara and neighboring towns. He is very easy to walk and we had no trouble around other dogs. At home, he’s an indoor dog, going out only to do his business. He’s really cute in trying to “talk” to us. It took a little figuring out, but we eventually could understand what he wanted. Sometimes it’s to go out for a bathroom break, or he’s tired and ready for bed. Mostly, he’s saying it’s play time. He “trained” us with our socks and sandals before we brought out his proper toys to play keep away and tug. He is happy to get back rubs and loves staying close while we’re having dinner and watching TV. Wendy and John are great hosts. They welcomed us warmly and had simple instructions for caring for Tucker. They have a lovely and spacious home with beautiful outdoor space. We especially liked watching the birds attracted to all the feeders they have around the yard. Montecito’s upper village is a short walk away and is a great gathering spot for the neighborhood. It is just a few minutes drive to downtown Santa Barbara with all its shops, restaurants, wineries, and beaches. We would highly recommend them to any future sitters and would love to return ourselves.
Catherine is super nice and hospitable. She prepared so much to make us feel comfortable and welcome. Her apartment is very nice, clean and cozy. Blaze is a very pretty and well-behaved cat. She is a little quieter, but of course has her moments when she wants to play, preferably hide and seek. She doesn't like to be touched with your hands a lot because she is a bit afraid. But when you catch the right times you can pet her and she loves to cuddle and comes to lie down on you. So adorable! She generally likes to be close to you. I'm already missing her. Cascais is a beautiful place, shopping facilities, restaurants and bus stations are within walking distance and other beautiful places like Sintra and other beaches are also not far away. I felt very comfortable with Blaze, in the apartment, in Cascais and the contact with Catherine. It was so nice to get to know her, she is a great person and I would love to look after Blaze again.
Joey is a cuddly and adorable kitty and we enjoyed keeping her company for a week. She was happy to sit by me or my husband on the couch for some affection or in front of the fireplace when it was on. She is clearly a dearly loved girl and enjoys keeping an eye out for any activity out the window! Elana was very communicative with clear instructions and it was nice to discover the area of Marin County as well and gave me some great tips for good restaurants and hiking in the area, which we enjoyed. Thank you Elana for trusting us with your sweet Joey!
Sitting for Lorraine and Judd while they were on holiday was amazing. Cuba is the sweetest Lab alive and is so well trained and just so nice to look after. There are so many footpaths and bridleways
