We were fortunate that Deena Milgrim and Ivan Saltz house- and pet-sat for us from October 15 through November 22, 2017 while we were in Nepal, Hong Kong and mainland China. They did a great job and we’re very grateful for the care they provided to our two aged Cavalier King Charles spaniels as well as our home. We returned home to a pot of home-made bean soup simmering on the stove and a warm loaf of freshly-baked bread, courtesy of Deena. Both were delightful surprises, since we were jet-lagged and hungry when we came through our front door. In addition, they took very good care of our two dogs, Phoebe and Daphne, 15 and 14 years old, respectively. Typically easy to manage, about two weeks prior to our departure for this trip, Daphne fell off the deck outside in the middle of the night and broke a weight-bearing toe. The dogs required twice daily feedings and some morning medications. Deena was quite diligent about keeping Daphne’s bandage dry in addition to administering those routine medications every day: 3 pills for Daphne’s heart murmur and eye drops in both eyes. She carried Daphne outside to the patch of sod we’d set on our deck where Daphne could potty conveniently while her toe is healing. Deena even drove Daphne to her weekly vet appointments for bandage checks/changes and x-rays. When we returned home, we found that Daphne was in good shape and that Phoebe had even gained a little weight—a welcome change, because the vet had expressed concerned about minor weight loss earlier in the summer. They also took good care of our home, bringing in our mail daily and watering our house-plants per the instructions in our house-sitting manual. Deena miraculously coaxed an orchid to bloom in our master bathroom while we were away! They also mowed our lawn and set out our trash, recycling and yard waste bins per the waste removal schedule described in our house-sitting manual. We are pleased to recommend Deena and Ivan as house-and pet-sitters.
