We had an excellent time looking after Georgie and Paddy's wonderful cottage in Barley and their lovely dog Spotty. We arrived in advance and were shown around all the details of the house, which were also written down in the instructions in case we forgot anything. The house is situated with stunning views over farmland and gets fantastic sunsets. We stayed in the modern annexe of the house which meant we didn't really need to use the rest of the house at all. The lounge is lovely and cosy with underfloor heating and a nice woodburner. Georgie's kitchen is great and is a fully equipped with all the equipment you might ever wish for. A gardener comes weekly and there are cleaners who come every 2 weeks, so it is a very straightforward sit as houses go. Spotty is absolutely adorable and super sociable. Being a spaniel she still has plenty of energy and is happy to go for long walks across the fields. She also likes to curl up on her part of the sofa and snooze next to you while you work/relax. She's very good around both other people and dogs, and we had no problems letting her off the lead on walks, safe in the knowledge that she will come back when tempted with a treat! She is quite vocal when she wants something (usually food or a cuddle) and it was very convenient that there is a dog flap in the kitchen, so she can let herself out if she needs the toilet. She was also not too needy and was ok with being left at home occasionally. We went up to the IWM Duxford one day which is only 15 mins away by car. (An excellent day out for the aeronautically inclined) Also in the village there is a Michelin pub, which we visited one evening. Fantastic food and a great atmosphere! Overall we really enjoyed this sit, and would love to look after Spotty again in the summer perhaps!
