David
We were very fortunate to look after Kate and David’s home and pets for almost 7 weeks and enjoyed every single moment.

A delay in their travel plans afforded us the opportunity to spend an hour or two with Kate and David the week before they left and David showed us around their lovely home and explained the routine with the animals, holiday lets etc.

We really enjoyed our morning walk around the village with the dogs, Reggie and Elsie , calling in at the well-stocked community shop for a newspaper and leftover vegetables for the pigs. We quickly became known amongst the locals who were all incredibly friendly and welcoming and obviously think very highly of Kate and David. Our daily afternoon walk was longer and there are several options of footpath direct from the house, including a lovely hour’s walk through the countryside to Bibury, a popular tourist spot and a great place to stop for a cup of hot chocolate before the return leg. David had mentioned Reggie‘s occasional disappearance whilst out walking and as he didn’t always respond directly to a call back with the whistle, together with it being shooting season, we decided to walk him on the extended lead, except when we were in an enclosed field when we would run him back and forwards between us which he thought was excellent fun. Dear old Elsie appeared to become younger with every walk, loitering behind to sniff around and then running at full pelt to catch up. She is a little ball of fun. Reggie is such a loving boy, so eager to please and always wanting to be close to you at home. We can honestly say that although we find it difficult to say goodbye to pets after each and every house sit, saying farewell to Reggie left us with exceptionally heavy hearts.

Feeding the pigs was always fun. They are very talkative girls and welcomed us each morning with a lot of grunting. Giving them a brush resulted in them rolling on their backs with their feet in the air in ecstasy! There are ducks and chickens to feed and water but this is all very easy and straightforward.

We had regular communication with David although of course with the time difference in Australia replies back and forth could not always be instantaneous. We believe David is content for sitters to use their initiative should a minor problem arise as he appeared quite relaxed at putting his faith in us to deal with any unexpected situations.

Kate and David’s house is incredibly comfortable and spacious. We had a beautiful bedroom on the first floor of their home, part of which straddles the river, and it was lovely to hear the sound of the water running beneath the building whilst lying in bed.. The peaceful “river room“, with views directly upstream, is the most perfect place for morning yoga, curling up with a good book, or watching the ducks paddling and feeding. We are sure the local pair of swans performed their courting dance directly outside the sliding glass doors especially for our benefit although the otter did not put in an appearance so we can only hope we have another opportunity to spy this shy creature in future.

There are quite a few comings and goings in and around the property, some expected and some not, but we came to realise that it is a very relaxed environment and Kate and David are the type of people who will always have their door open to visitors and we soon fell in with this easy-going atmosphere.

If you are looking for a relaxing house sit surrounded by beautiful countryside, with very friendly neighbours and locals, in a incredibly comfortable home with adorable dogs then look no further.

We would not hesitate to recommend this sit and hope that if we are lucky enough to be asked to return that we will be available to do so.

Pippa
Great! Fantastic hostess (Pipa picked me up from the airport; I was allowed to use the car...), very nice, quiet house and of course the two pieces of gold Boni and Jasper. We had a lot of fun together, could walk endlessly and there was plenty of cuddling too.
Many thanks (also to Dani) and I would love to come back any time. Highly recommended!

Ann
I did two cat sits at Ann’s. Her home and garden is beautiful and peaceful. I loved relaxing and exploring the area. Ann was very helpful and communication was great while I was there. Alexander was an easy cat to look after. He loved being outside and so you don’t get to see much of him. He’s a sweet old kitty. I’d love to cat sit here again on my return.
