We had an absolute wonderful time looking after Amy’s two cats. Her communication was excellent and instructions all clear and detailed, making for a relaxing welcome. Her apartment was spotless with beautiful views out over the ocean, we spent every evening out on the patio and was just stunning. Veronica and Betty are a low maintenance couple that took a few days to warm up to us but once they did are adorable playful little cats.
Steph and Tony are a warm, welcoming, friendly and laid back couple with a comfortable funky home containing much fun and eclectic surprises but also everything you could possibly need in a practical sense. Its a great location for Stirling and all points Fife (we completed a lot of the Fife Coastal path) but very quiet with a super helpful neighbour (Ginnie). Merry and Pippin are real chaacters, a lot of fun and very very friendly and the chickens (outside in a pen) easy to look after (automated doors ) and productive suppliers of large fresh eggs. We really enjoyed experiencing a slice of Steph and Tonys world and would heartily recommend this sit . 10/10.
Lovely home + cat Jack! Pleasure to petsit!
First off, Remi tge beagle was an adorable companion and easy to care for! Like all beagles everywhere, he thinks with his hunger to eat all food everywhere… lol… Jeff and Sue have a great home and did everything they could to make my stay with Remi successful! I appreciate their hospitality and would house sit again.
We loved caring for Augustus whilst Megan was away. He is a really friendly, yet very independent cat. Megan's home is lovely and in a great location, literally a two-minute walk to the beach and a ten-minute walk to the town centre. Our only disappointment was that the sit was only for three days, we didn't want to leave!
This was a sit that had been rescheduled from last year when due to covid we could not travel. I am so glad that this time around Deborah and Graham were able to travel and that I got to stay with two lovely little cats in a stunning setting! Communication Communication was always good and consistent from the application stage right through to a high level of support during the sit. The Welcome Guide was comprehensive and with all of the detail a sitter needs. It was especially nice to share photos of the cats and to see where Deborah and Graham were travelling on the Shetland Islands Arrival I was picked up at Keighley train station as arranged and we drove the short distance to Haworth where after a cup of tea I was given a tour of the house and garden and then Graham made a lovely dinner which was much appreciated. There were additional notes to the WG and alot of care had gone into putting this together. The Cats Millie and Bertie are sweet cats which I believe are rescue cats. Millie is much more confident than Bertie who was quite wary of me for the first few days. I have learnt from experience that its best not to crowd anxious cats as it only adds to their stress so I moved quietly around him and left him to come to me if he felt safe enough; duirng the course of the sit he was happy to be in the same room but never fully got over his apprehension; in the garden he was much more relaxed and a couple of times hid behind me when a visiting cat appeared! Millie likes a head and chin rub and was much more approachable; towards the end of the sit she sat with me on the couch which was nice. Both cats do like to play and we had some games with their toys. The House The first thing that struck me was the degree to which Deborah and Graham had gone to make the house covid safe; during this whole covid period and still travelling for much of it, its the safest I have felt in any house which was spotlessly clean and sanitised with anti-bacterial sprays and gels throughout. Thank you so much for this thoughfulness especially as i go to stay with my elderly mother between sits. The house is very well organised and everything was at hand. The bedroom was comfortable with a great view towards Haworth and there was no shortage of hot water in the bathroom. The loungeroom is comfortable and the garden is a credit to hard work and a flair for design...the garden and aspect towards the town with farmland on the surrounding hills is stunning! A nice touch was a huge folder giving all sorts of tourist information and maps and walk suggestions for the area. There is also a detailed folder for kitchen appliances etc. The Location Haworth is a short drive or bus ride (excellent service) to Keighley and in the other direction towards Hebden Bridge. A short walk from the house is a pub and I had a meal there on the last night; it was average. A short walk down the hill from the house is a co-op supermarket, cafes, micro brewery, hairdressers, fish and chip shop and other small shops. Haworth train station is also located here and they run steam trains here to Keighley in one direction and Oxenhope at the end of the line. This is the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway staffed mainly by volunteers and something we should all support. The main town is not far from here either by a nice walk up through parkland or along the busy road; its all uphill so the bus is recommended and they are frequent running through Haworth to Hebden Bridge. This is 'Bronte Country' so much of what is on offer in Haworth is themed to this history. Its a tourist destination and at weekends especially is very crowded but you can easily escape the crowds by setting out on one of the many walks up onto the moors and you will not be disappointed as the scenery here must be amongst the best in the country! One of the things that struck me about this area was the friendliness of local people and their upbeat and open conversation; after being in London for much of lockdown, it was like drinking a tonic! Further afield from Haworth is Hebden Bridge with a really nice canalside walk, vibrant centre full of quirky and independent small shops and businesses, cinema, art studios, and a market that runs through the week selling art and craft, second-hand goods and local farm produce. While Haworth is the worlds first 'Fairtrade' town, Hebden Bridge is touted as the 'lesbian capital' of the UK so sadly no chance of me meeting a farmers widow with a red tractor there, though I did search! Uphill from HB is Heptonstall and unless you are very fit, take the bus! This is a really nice place to spend a few hours wandering along cobbled streets and visiting the ruined church and its rebuilt neighbour and searching out the grave of Sylvia Plath the famous poet. There are great opportunities here for photographers with intact textile workers cottages back to back and accessed by cobbled laneways, and when you are done there are a couple of pubs you can recover in before taking the bus back down the hill! Notable people who lived in this area are poet laureat Ted Hughes (husband of Sylvia Plath) and musician Ed Sheeran. Further afield a visit to Saltaire near Keighley should be on your 'must do' list. Its a UNESCO World Heritage site comprising of a huge Victorian textile mill complex and mill workers village where people live though the mill itself is now given over to gallery space, specialist shops and cafes. Close-by is a canal and river with cafe, boat hire, parkland and cricket pitch and when you have had enough of that you can go up through woodland on the quirky Victorian tramway. There is so much to do across this region that the only thing that will slow you down is lack of imagination or some rest days in Deborah and Graham's beautiful garden; and with some cat company, what could be nicer? Highly recommended!
