This was our first pet-sit and to say we were nervous about the idea of leaving our babies with a stranger is an understatement. We were more nervous about our babies, then with the idea of a stranger having full access to our house. From our first meeting with Rick, a week or so before we were to leave, we were comforted by his warm personality and the affection he showed to our cats and dogs. Rick then came to our house on the day we were leaving, punctually 30 minutes before we were to leave (just as planned). We had a chance to go over a few things again and it made us more comfortable to know that we were leaving our house and our babies in good hands. During the sit, Rick kept in contact with us via text messages, letting us know how everyone was doing and sending us pictures that further reduced our anxiety about leaving our babies. The cats were clearly enjoying themselves, and our dog Pepper was being treated to more attention then we ourselves can sometimes give her. When we came home, the house was in great shape, we would never have known that Rick and his wife were here, except for the fact that they actually did laundry and left things folded for us to put away (that certainly was way beyond our expectation). Cats can be difficult with change, but Rick has a magic touch, and when we came home our cats were relaxed and happy as if we had never left them. The biggest surprise for us was with our dog Pepper. We saw pictures of Rick and his wife taking Pepper for walks and how she bonded with them in our absence. Clearly she felt the love and responded in kind. When Daniela took Pepper for a walk later that day, she was better behaved then we have been able to accomplish (I mean Pepper ... not Daniela). We had told Rick that we were doing training with Pepper and he clearly had reinforced and surpassed what we were able to accomplish. We would defiantly recommend Rick to anyone, and we would invite him to house/pet sit any time that he was available.
Is it better to board cats or leave at home?
