Lynn
Luca & Diego are fantastic cats. Both warmed up to me within a day or two & were great company. Sometimes they were cuddly lap cats, & other times just hung out nearby. Most nights they slept at my feet. They are great together & play often; they can get rambunctious at night so bring a pair of earplugs if you're a light sleeper. Diego spends most days out & about but comes in at night & if the weather is wet. And Luca has a favorite goldfish-wand toy that is guaranteed to get his interest (bring your travel sewing kit in case the stuffed goldfish needs a few stitches -lol). I really enjoyed my time with both these sweet kitties & miss them already.
There's nothing to Guthrie (it's more of an intersection than a town), but Lynn generously allowed me the use of her car & there are some cute small towns (ex: Elkton), & Nashville all within an hours drive. She has wifi (average speed 9 Mbps) & streaming TV, including a few subscription channels. The road gets a fair amount of through-traffic, but you get used to it quickly, & you can see deer & hear frogs out back. The home is cute & attractive & has all the unique charm & quirks that one expects in an old home. There was a tornado warning during my stay, but Lynn told me what to do & while I was nervous at the time, it was over soon – and I got to meet a few of her neighbors when we were all out the next day cleaning debris from the yards -lol!
Aside from the kitties, what makes this sit worthwhile is Lynn. She is generous & relaxed in nature which makes for a pleasant sit. She treated me to dinner when I arrived, made me breakfast for the next day, & took me on a tour to show me the stores (3), restaurants (2), & the Amish bakery before she left (fried hand pie!). She left emergency cash in case I needed it & clear instructions on the few things which would need my attention. I was welcome to eat anything in her fridge & drive her car to explore the surrounds as I wished, including the occasional overnight stay elsewhere if desired, which if I hadn't been by myself, might have taken her up on.
This is not the right sit for everyone given Guthrie's small size, but for a relaxed sit in which really to get away from it all & experience rural America in a cute & quirky old home with two super sweet cats, I can recommend.

Stephen
I really enjoyed housesitting at Steve’s with Francois the kitty, my new best friend.

Steve’s comfortable, light-filled home is decorated with arts and crafts from around the world. It looks out onto trees and has a great deck and hot tub for relaxing. As a home cook, I really appreciated all his cooking tools, pantry ingredients (including obscure ones), and cookbooks.

The home is quiet and away from the tourist scene in downtown Healdsburg, but only a 10-minute drive to the main attractions near Healdsburg Plaza.

Steve is very relaxed, welcoming, organized, and responsive to questions about the house and Francois.

The best part of the experience was hanging out with Francois, the kitty with a big personality. He was comfortable socializing with me from the very beginning and was such a great companion during my stay.

I highly recommend this housesit and would love to return one day soon.
