George and Oliver, two New England cats in the quintessential New England town of Wenham. George and Oliver were equally adorable yet as different as sunshine and snow. Which pretty much related to the February weather. Oliver instantly befriended us. George, on the other hand, hid for 4 days, which brought about a few more grey hairs, but made his reappearance all the more delightful. Oliver was always first to finish his food and always ready to steal George’s. As George was more of a second winder rather than a grazer, supervising meals was pretty easy. George emerged from his shell as the sit progressed. Oliver was happy to snuggle on a lap or cosy up to George on the sofa. At least until he wanted a chase, with George a willing candidate. Well sometimes! We met Sean and Jane before the sit, when Jane kindly picked us up at the airport. She gave us a detailed tour of her clean. quirky home, complete with two staircases and sufficient hidey holes for the most determined cat to evade discovery. We kept in touch via WhatsApp, sending daily photos and messages while the boys breakfasted. We were conscious of the time difference - Jane and Sean were 5 hours ahead, so their daily update came at 11 am. However, Oliver was in a time zone of his own. Bless him, but as was on a strict intake, he just had to wait. As a hungry person, I empathised fully. Thankfully Jane was happy for me to use her cross trainer machine to burn calories. If English Colonial Style homes are your thing, you will love Wenham. The distance between Jane and Sean’s home to the commuter rail was just over a mile. As was the small shopping centre, with a pharmacy, supermarket and Dunkin Donuts. We never tired of the walk, as each time we spotted something different. Going to other towns, including Boston, is doable. You can still be home for the boys’ dinner, even on a weekend, when there are fewer trains and ten dollar weekend passes. Exploring what was on the doorstep revealed hidden treaures: The swamp walk to Danvers Wenham Burial ground, synonymous with the witch trials Tendercrop farm shop Wenham Museum All a hop skip and a jump from the house and chronicled in our travelog: travelandsit.com There was plenty to do, yet we were still be about o spend quality hours with the boys, maintain feeding times and unwind with Netflix in the evening. Thank you Jane and Sean for facilitating an authentic New England experience. And to George and Oliver for fun, company and laughs along the way xx
This was a lovely sit. Timble is an absolute sweetheart - she was friendly from the start, calling to us and coming for strokes; as Jenny had said, Timble loves loving her grooming brush. She always came to sit along side us in the evenings, and even on our laps once or twice! Jenny and Mark had made sure that we would be comfortable - the en suite guest room has plenty of drawer and hanging space and they had even made space for our food in the fridge and freezer. Very thoughtful. The house is in a cracking location too, with great walks from the door. It's also in easy reach, using the train or bus, of Leeds, York and Harrogate - you wouldn't need a car to be able to explore. We had a lovely week here - if you're looking for a sit with city access but in the countryside, with a sweet cat and great hosts, you'd be hard put to do better. Thanks for choosing us to sit for you.
Margo and Glen have a beautiful home that is very clean and comfortable with great amenities. It’s in a quiet suburban area that is a short drive to shops, the city and beaches, and Lake Macquarie. Poppi is a very sweet dog who is a pleasure to look after and doesn’t require much. Margo is very organised and quick to respond to messages. The Welcome Guide she left for us was informative and covered all important information. Overall this was a perfect house and pet for us to look after and we enjoyed staying here. We look forward to returning to spend more time with Poppi!
Mary is a warm, friendly, and charming host, with 2 cute dogs that are so lovable and cuddly. We grew attached to the dogs quickly. The community is beautiful with many amenities, however we were busy with the dogs and family time so we didn’t get to use them much. Mary’s home is very comfortable and it was fun using her golf cart. It was a nice place to spend the holidays away from the cold. There are restaurants in the community, however a car is needed to shop for groceries.
Mel and Sue were shy cats, but I was warned this was the case. I felt we were just starting to get to know each by the time I left but they seemed like sweeties who loved their toys when they were happy to be in the room with me! The place is really close to the overground and you can get to central london really quickly and theres some interesting places to explore locally- make sure you check out 'Gods own Junkyard' if you stay here! Vicky is very warm and made me feel incredibly welcome, offering to cook dinner the night I arrived and offering to let me stay till my next sit- thankyou again for the very thoughtful gift! I’d happily sit again if calendars align :)
Enjoyed my time at Lori’s home with Betty. Communications went well and there were no issues. Betty was very friendly and certainly knows her walking routes and let you know if she needed an extra visit outside. The location in Midtown is close to many sites worthy of visiting. Lori’s home is beautiful and the bed and facilities were 5 star. Would not hesitate to look after Betty again.
