Barbara seemed nice enough when we met in person, but unfortunately I cannot recommend her as a sitter at all. We returned to find the area around the litter at our home absolutely filthy. The litter situation was evidently neglected enough during the week that the cats peed on 2 of our chairs (not normal for them) - this was not even noticed or mentioned by her. There were also smaller issues like hair all over the bathroom and dirty dishes piled unorganized in the dishwasher (after we left the house spotless for her) that made it feel like Barbara viewed this less like a house-sit and more like a hotel stay.
Lucca is a gorgeous big boy who is full of energy and gives great cuddles. I spent the week enjoying long walks with Lucca on Tynemouth's lovely beaches and the nearby park. As a young dog, Lucca's recall isn't 100%, but he responds to his whistle and treats, and he walks well on his lead. When we were back home, Lucca was cuddly and happy to chill on his own while I worked on my laptop nearby. Chris & Heather have a stunning home in an ideal location: 5 minutes' walk to the train station, and a short walk into town and to the beach. Chris & Heather welcomed me into their home and talked me through everything. I felt very comfortable during my stay and was sad to say goodbye!
Note: Trusted Housesitters are investigating the falsehoods stated by Mr and Mrs McSweeney (home owners) relating to Edward and Laura (house sitters). In the meantime, Edward and Laura have left the following, factual review of their house sit experience. Edward and Laura thoroughly enjoyed taking care of Cole and looking after this house in Plymouth. The owners kindly gave Edward and Laura the use of their cars and left plenty of firewood for the fireplace. It is difficult for Edward and Laura to make further positive remarks regarding this house sit. If you are considering applying for this house sit, Edward and Laura recommend you establish precisely what your responsibilities are in terms of communication frequency with the home owners and the level of detail that’s required. For example, around 10 days into the sit, the owners messaged Edward and Laura, apologised for ‘being so needy’ but could photos be sent of Cole and the house/yard every few days. Edward and Laura made a point of sending photos and updates twice a week and more often as and when something of interest was going on with Cole. Over 30 photos and 44 messages were sent by Edward and Laura total. According to the review Edward and Laura received, this was still not adequate enough to meet the owners’ expectations. The owners stated Edward and Laura did not ask any questions about the house or Cole. Edward and Laura asked relevant questions during an initial FaceTime call, in order for them to grasp what was required in terms of caring for Cole and looking after the house. This was the primary objective as Edward and Laura saw their role as Trusted Housesitters. In addition, Edward and Laura had access to a Welcome Guide prepared by Mr and Mrs McSweeney, which was published on the Trusted Housesitters platform well in advance of the sit start date. Furthermore, a folder with more detailed information was left for Edward and Laura at the house sit itself. It was stated that because the door to the area where Cole’s food and litter tray was kept was closed over, Edward and Laura didn’t have much experience in looking after cats. As per evidence in Edward and Laura’s Trusted Housesitters’ profile, and through feedback from home owners, Edward and Laura have taken care of 19 cats and oversaw the delivery of a litter of 7 kittens. Edward and Laura are therefore extremely experienced in taking care of cats. Furthermore, Edward and Laura have had 25 years’ experience taking care of their own cats. The owners alluded to Cole being under the bed for 2 months and denied access to his food and litter tray. This is simply untrue. Ironically, when Edward and Laura arrived at the house sit, Cole was sleeping under the bed! Edward and Laura were accused of smoking inside the house - Edward and Laura are non-smokers and have never smoked – this is clearly stated on their profile. This was a false allegation. It was stated that Edward and Laura had scented candles and air fresheners ‘everywhere’ – Edward and Laura bought the homeowners a scented candle and flowers as a gift for their return home - they were not everywhere. The log burning fireplace in the living room was the cause of the smoke as the ventilation was poor at times and the smoke didn’t always go up the chimney and escaped into the room. During communications over WhatsApp, Edward and Laura found the conversations were very one sided with little or no interaction from either of the owners in response - at times just a thumbs up was sent in response to the many photos and messages Edward and Laura took the time to send. It’s unfortunate the owners didn’t raise any of these issues with Edward and Laura when they returned home and chose to leave factually incorrect information through the words of a negative review. Edward and Laura would not recommend this house sit - this predominantly stems from the false accusations made against them, however, you can see from Edward and Laura’s review that the homeowners appeared quite demanding in terms of frequency and depth communication with little or no reciprocation. Edward and Laura left the property having cleaned it meticulously (as they do on all of their house sits); Edward and Laura had both cars valeted, topped up with gas and bought a welcome gift - sadly they received no thanks for any of these gestures. All in all, Edward and Laura had a very disappointing experience and would therefore be reluctant to recommend this house sit.
We had a great time in Naomi, Rich’s and Theo’s lovely home. Skye was great company and enjoyed our walks on the nearby trails. Withiel is a lovely rural location with access to some lovely walks and close to both coasts. Lovely garden, modern house with all mod cons and peace and quiet. Recommended
MLKy and Roger are such lovely cats and I enjoyed caring for them! Roger has some digestive issues and there was some clean up needed a few times. It helped to give him very small portions more frequently. Communication with Susana was great, the home is very comfortable and spacious, and the neighborhood is a gem with great food and of course Prospect Park nearby! Overall a wonderful sit.
I had an absolute incredible time looking after Billy and staying your beautiful house 🤩 This was my 50th housesit and I never had a cat this affectionate and chilled. He crawled into my bed, slept in my arm and was happy being picked up during the day, observing everything from a higher level 😍 I felt very welcome both times we met and I would be very happy to come back in future for a second housesit 🤩
