Made to feel very welcome and great communication during our stay. Gizmo the cat is very easy to care for and is full of character.
Ted and Joanne are super hosts and Addie is a delightful cat with a distinct, friendly and loving personality. I had the advantage of multiple phone conversations with Ted and Joanne pre-pandemic. I felt like I knew all three members of the family months before actually meeting. Their home in Highwood, Illinois is very comfortable: lots of light-with many great plants; fun, comfortable furniture with just a hint of Silicon Valley; and an eclectic collection of North Shore art. In short it is my kind of house. The area has many trails, ranging from walking trails, bike trails and a couple of sets of stairs with enough steps to get a good workout and then sum! Also, fun paths that go both down to Lake Michigan or up on the Bluffs. I explored walking the area and am sure that there are many, many more paths to explore. Ted and Joanne took me on a trip through the area as soon as I arrived and this gave me a chance to get to know the shops, trails, parks and various communities in the North Shore. This was my first time visiting the North Shore and I sure hope to return soon. The area is great for walking and has a real good selection of restaurants, stores and craft beer locales. Ted and Joanne treated me to dinner the night that I arrived and the evening before I left. Also, Ted prepared what I view as one of the best breakfast egg dishes that I have ever eaten the morning of my departure. Ted is a gourmet trained chef and I can still taste the flavors in the omelet dish. I immediately bonded with Addie and we played many times a day. Over the last three to four days, Addie decided that she would jump in my bed and lay on the sheet next to me while I was reading the google news on my cell phone. I held the phone with one hand and extended my other arm and hand out to Addie and she placed one paw on my finger and proceeded to play with my hand. Often, I would fall asleep while she was playing with my hand. Then I would wake up and, usually, she had returned to her bed. Of course, when morning came, if not before, she would greet me with a reminder that it was time for her breakfast. Highwood, Illinois is really easy to get to. I flew into Midway Airport, took the CTA subway to downtown Chicago and walked three blocks to the commuter rail to Highwood. The Highwood station is about 6 minutes walking to Ted and Joanne’s home. I took the commuter rail to explore some of the other North Shore communities as well as to shop in some of the stores in the area. I hope to visit Ted, Joanne and Addie over Thanksgiving while my grandson and I pet sit three very active, small size dogs in Northbrook, Illinois.
This sit was absolutely brilliant on so many levels; 1. Elsa - communication with her was great. We had a video chat before the sit. Her welcome guide is so thorough, I printed it off beforehand and referred to it often during the sit. She adores Filou (had him since a kitten & he's 16 now) & has very clear instructions for how best to cater for his needs, which was comforting. Throughout the sit, I could contact her anytime on WhatsApp with the numerous (sometimes daft) questions. She was always happy to help & keen that you also enjoy your sit. A really nice person. The apartment - spotlessly clean, bright & comfortable, has everything you need, including a nice little terrace, which you & Filou can enjoy. Transport - Winterthur was really easy to get to from Zurich airport by train & then a bus which stops right outside the flat. Again Elsa left clear instructions for getting there, including accessing the flat. She kindly lent me her bike & it's a bike friendly city. Walking into the centre takes less than 30 minutes. Food - there's a big Aldi store 5 minutes walk along the road which has everything you need (note it's closed on a Sunday, along with all the other shops in Winterthur). I also found a lovely little restaurant serving traditional Swiss food a 5 minute walk from the flat - Nagelsee. Great food, friendly service, even though the owner speaks little English and me little German, we got by on gestures. It was so great, I ate there twice. 2nd time was on a Sunday, when they close early at 7pm. There's fast food chains nearby too but I don't eat fast food. Things to do - I don't think Winterthur is the most touristy city. It's known as the city of museums, if you're interested in them (not for me). Elsa sent me an app that has cycle/hiking routes. I did a 22km cycle route around the city with 20 points of interest relating to Winterthur's industrial history. The information boards are in German but you can use Google translate. I also took a walk up to a viewpoint called Baumli about an hour from the flat, with nice views over the city. The river Toss runs along the opposite side of the road from the flat with lovely riverside walks. Filou - he is gorgeous, very shy & gentle. As with all cats, you need to wait for them to approach you and with Filou this took over three days! Other than for me to open the terrace door, he avoided me & I was beginning to think I'd head home before he'd stop being wary of me. However on the fourth day it was raining so I sat quietly reading my book on the sofa and he came through and let me brush him. He tends to walk around when you're brushing him rather than sitting still so you end up following him all round the flat. It's cute though. If you're looking for a cat sit with lots of interaction & lap time, Filou is not for you. He definitely likes you being there but he is old so likes to hide away and sleep most of the day. Apologies for the long review but it's important, if a sit is great, that you let other sitters know why. Highly recommend 👍😄
This was a very special house sit that made me feel most privileged to be there for 6 weeks. Sandra is a delightful host who made me so welcome, provided a fully completed welcome guide which was an excellent resource, and made sure that I had everything I needed for my 6 week stay. She was always there for me on What's App for any help, hints & tips for the sit and we had a great time over social media. She is a sitter herself as well as an owner, so she knows what her sitters need. Her apartment is in the most beautiful setting, so close to the centre of Dubai yet far enough away to be a quiet area that was 100% safe (as is the whole city). It was spotlessly clean when I arrived which made the upkeep so easy & straight forward. But what makes this place so special is the nigh time views and the roof top pool - pure luxury. Indi, Raja & Kou Kou were such good fun to be around and kept me entertained throughout the stay, there is never a dull moment with this crazy bunch. They play so well together, and play fight a bit, but really like it when you play with them. A good 30 minutes of chasing the feather around also helps to tire them out. They are vocal bunch, and will let you know when it's close to feeding time or treats time, and Indi will let you know if the litter trays are not 100% to her standard. But most of the time they are happy lounging around and catching up on their sleep. I miss Sandra, her apartment & the crazy bunch very much and fingers crossed get the chance to return soon.
Noche is the sweetest cat you'll meet! He is super friendly, talkative and enjoys the occasional petting. Vanessa was super helpful and informative, there were no issues during the stay and she communicated Noches needs very clearly. The apartment is located in a great area in town and it was clean and organized.

Update: Austin and Jennifer are still the best! Our girls have stayed with them a couple times since our first review and every time they get so much playtime and love. We had our two girls stay with them over Christmas for 12 days and during that time we received frequent and timely updates with photos of our dogs having the time of their lives. Austin and Jennifer have a great set-up for outdoor playtime and even went above and beyond by taking on the responsibility of changing one of our dog's diapers and keeping her clean as she recovers from a booty-surgery. The best part was that each dog got a professional picture with Santa and a Christmas present to bring home - all free of charge. Overall, Austin and Jennifer are THE dog people to watch after your pets - we couldn't be happier and can't wait to use their services again.
Austin and Jennifer are the best! The boys started at just 11 weeks old when we had to take an unplanned trip!! They are loving and caring with the boys! Even though they are crazy they love them like they are their own! The boys get so excited to go and be able to play! If you are looking for a place for your dogs looks no further! As an anxious dog mom they have been nothing but great and I know the boys are in good hands!!
Austin and Jennifer are simply the best. I 100% not only trust them to take the best care of my dog, but I know how much my pup LOVES being there. She’s truly treated like family. They also send photo updates all the time which is fantastic, and they are really flexible with last minute requests - my husband needed surgery this week and they were happy to take my girl in for a few nights! Just the best.
They are amazing. They took on our dog who has recently experienced aggression towards others and dogs. They took her in and had no issues with her. Because they were willing they allowed me to see my daughter graduate basic training. I will forever be grateful for them!!

Austin went above and beyond for my boy Ace. I’ve tried a few different boardings in the area and have had a few issues afterwards. When Blackthorn took my German Shepherd, they made him feel like apart of the family. They sent me daily pictures of them feeding and playing with my boy Ace. I truly felt he was loved and cared for as if he was one of their own. Ever since leaving him with Austin, I will never leave my pup with anyone else. Thank you austin and the staff of Blackthorn. Austin is great with animals. I've used them twice so far and every time I've picked up my dog, she's been exactly the way I dropped her off. He has an immaculate kennel setup with indoor and outdoor runs and he even brings them inside. For Christmas my dog got to see Santa LOL!
Austin and Jennifer are a great team! They have built an incredible environment for dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Our blue heeler starts squealing with excitement when we hit their road and is so happy to say good morning! I appreciate that he comes home tired and spends his evening relaxing but does not seem exhausted or overworked. They ask questions and truly take time to build relationships with humans and their pets. We are so happy that we found Blackthorn Boarding Facility and highly recommend them!
I highly recommend this place to anyone who is needing there dogs watched. I took my husky beau and my air/lab hank here. Very friendly and knowledgeable and loved the pictures I was sent. I felt reassured my dogs were in good hands!
This place is awesome. It's clean and setup great for daycare or boarding overnight. We do daycare during the week and occasionally overnight. We just left our puppy 4 days and they treated her like one of their own. They really care about the dogs. I cannot recommend them enough. Thank you Austin and Jennifer. And Jimmy who my dog is obsessed with😁
Our chocolate lab loves it here! We take him to daycare weekly, and he’s always extremely excited to go to “school.” Our pooch comes home tired (but contented) after romping with his pals and roaming the yard. We also feel very comfortable boarding him for extended periods of time, and the owners were very accommodating when we needed to travel out of state for a family emergency. The owners know all the dogs’ individual personalities, and they care for them like their own. They genuinely love dogs and I appreciate their practical, common-sense, and cage-free approach. I’m very grateful to Hobo Dog Haven for being our dog’s home away from home!
We left a Dutch Shepherd and 14 yr old Shepherd Doberman here for a weekend. They clearly had a wonderful time playing with other dogs and were so happy . They were looked after with great care. There was plenty of shade and AC. I recommend this place, and owners of dogs can be assured of capable care and special instructions from the dog owners followed carefully by the Hobo Kennel owners.
My 8 year old German Shepherd, Emma, has had some incidences of fear aggression with other dogs in the past, so I was very nervous about leaving her here. We did a half-day trial, and Betsy introduced her to the other dogs slowly. Emma did great. Betsy was sure she would be fine, so we left her for five days while we were away. When we got back, Emma was relaxed, happy and hanging out with the other dogs like it was the most normal thing in the world! I was amazed. Last week we took her to a dog park where there were 11 other dogs, and she greeted them easily with a wagging tail. It's like I have a different dog. I am so pleased. Betsy at Hobo Dog Haven understands dog behavior and can read their body language. I trust her judgment. This was a very positive experience, and we will definitely use Hobo Dog Haven again. It's so much less stressful than a kennel for anxious dogs.
This place is amazing! Very reasonable rates for both daycare and boarding! Our dog started going here when she was old enough to play with other dogs.. We have had very little behavior issues because she is able to get her puppy energy out! I always thought it pretentious to take the dog to daycare, but it helps immensely for bigger dogs and getting that energy out...This I strongly believe has made easier training and cutting out bad behaviors due to boredom...
This place should be named Hobodog Heaven. I originally brought my dog here for week-day dog care, but I have begun to use them for weekends and overnight if we are on a trip where the dog can't go. Our dog Shadow is a member of our family and truly spoiled at home. She receives the same care and attention at Hobodog Haven, the same as if she were with us. So the lawn (field) isn't mowed; so the maintenance is not on par with a sub-division looking home. Your dog DOESN'T CARE. All she really needs is a friendly caretaker, a place to play and romp with the other dogs, meals, and a cozy place to crash after play-time. She gets that and more. The owners Doug & Betsy care about your pet; they are in-tune with how they feel that day and watch over them all as if they were their own. Slightly shabby chic? Trust me, your dog doesn't care, and neither will you if you try them out. Prices are more than fair - about half what I paid in Puyallup. If you want sterile dog kennels and higher prices there are plenty of places to take your dog. If you want a happy, tired, well cared for dog upon your return, go to Hobodog.
My dog loves this place. She gets to play, run in & out, sleep where she wants, and gets plenty of attention. Owner Betsy even let her sleep on the bed one day because the dog seemed "a little tired". Just like home to her. Forget the negative reviews. The price is the best you will find, the care is top-notch and my dog is not in a kennel. Plenty of places like that around that are sterile and impersonal, very few like Hobodog Haven.
We boarded our dog, Eli, for a couple of days. They took great care of him despite him being nervous. It is obvious that they love dogs! They commented on a couple of mannerisms of my pom. It shows an attention to detail and love of animals. We will definitely be using them in the future! Thanks again for taking good care of Eli!
Wow! I read the review by Michael and I have to say I'm absolutely astonished by its' content. My name Is Jim Sequist and I live in Pierce county. I have two dogs, an 11 year old Chocolate Lab (Chase) and a three year old white medium sized dog with black and brown spots.(Cody) My wife and I love our dogs like the family members they are. We have been leaving Chase in the care of Hobodog Haven for as many years as they have been in business. The first time we left Chase there he almost couldn't contain his excitement at seeing and hearing the other dogs. He seemed to be telling us at first glance that he was very happy to be there. Please keep in mind that we were anxious about leaving him anywhere because he, at the time had severe separation anxiety whenever we left him anywhere, even at home alone. After going over Chase's feeding requirements and any other particulars about him with Doug, we thought we were in for a dramatic display of "Mommy, Daddy please don't go!!!. In reality, when we said goodbye to Chase, he didn't even want to stop playing long enough to get his ears scratched and petted. If he could have talked I imagine he would have said something like "see ya, don'y hurry back. I'll be just fine here". We were gone for about a week and when we came to get him he was glad enough to see us to take about 5 seconds to greet us before going back to his buddies. As we were leaving he whined and cried and kept looking back to see the guys. He didn't want to leave. It was several months before we needed to leave chase for a second time. As we pulled into the driveway, he got more and more excited and when the house came into view he began barking as if to say " hey fellas, I'm back. He couldn't wait to get out of the truck. This behavior on his part has been repeated every time we take him back there. We have to go out of town soon so we brought both Chase and Cody in to meet Doug and Patsy. Again Chase recognized his favorite "doggie resort" and Cody was as excited to be there as Chase ever was. We feel very good about leaving our boys in Doug's' and Patsy's care. I can't imagine even considering leaving them anywhere else as long as we live in the area. I hope Michael will read this and re-think his decision to never leave his dog there. Yes, it is true that the property is rather rustic. No manicured lawns or expensive landscaping, but there are multiple fenced in areas where the dogs can run and play. There are secure areas that have trails through the woods around the house where, in Doug's words, the dogs can run around and pretend that they are "ferocious woods beasties". This is a wonderful alternative to most other dog boarding facilities and it should be remembered that the place is set up to be comfortable and enjoyable for dogs not humans. It would be a real shame for someone to read such a negative review such as the one I have referred to and have their pet miss out on a wonderful experience with other pups. Big kudos to Hobodog Haven and to Doug and Patsy for their fore-site in providing such a great place for dogs.
This place scares me. I stopped by to check it out while looking for a place to board my rottweiler. I brought my dog with me to show him around. The person working there let us into a fenced off area just outside of the building the dogs stay in. Outside the place seemed decent like the dogs have room to run around and play. I asked if I could look at the inside and they said no. I asked why, and they said they couldn't in case one of the dogs were to bite me or my dog. They tried to assure me that it wouldn't happen... but I simply can't leave my dog somewhere where they won't let me see the place that my dog is to stay at. For all I know it's poop and urine encrusted on the inside. To be honest the place looked like it needed some serious maintenance. While driving in you can tell that the yard rarely has any up keeping done on it which is a sign to me of a place I don't want my dog staying. I wouldn't suggest anyone ever leave their dog here. edit 12/21/2013 - After reviewing the owner's response I hope people can see how silly they are. Any other place will gladly allow potential dog owners to see where their dog will be staying. The owners of hobodog are going to great lengths to prevent that from happening which only shows they have something to hide. I suppose this would be a great place to leave your dog if you don't care about them at all. I have chosen to take my dog to Happy Tails in Enumclaw. Over two years of occasional work travel I can honestly say Zeus loves Happy Tails.
I took my 10 month old puppy to stay at hobo dog haven over the weekend. He came home with a bite mark across his nose and cuts on his nose and under his eye. He was also limping and lethargic. He is a sweet and non-aggressive dog. When he first came home, he was also ravenously hungry and thirsty. I am so upset he was not properly supervised. I will never take my dog back here.
We have been taking our pups to Shaggy Shack for years! We absolutely love the staff and the extra care that they take with our animals. This family owned and operated business exceeds expectations every single time. They take extraordinary care with dog behaviors and are experienced dealing with multiple dogs and multiple behaviors. The owners have set their dog yards up so all dogs are cared for and protected. We cannot say enough good things! They take care of Koa like he is their own. He's been boarded here twice and have never been disappointed. Whenever we are on vacation and ask how he is doing we get an immediate response with pictures and video clips of him. He loves it here... He is always so calm when we pick him up.
Desiree at Shaggy Shack took great care of our Labradoodle when he went in for grooming, and he came back looking great. This is definitely where we're taking him.
Kicker has been attending daycare here for over 4 years now. We love it. He is such a happy boy when he knows we are doing down the long driveway to the daycare. Thank you for always tiring my puppers out. He sleeps well after daycare.
My husband and I dropped off our dog for 4 nights. She was well taken care of and we got a full report from the staff on her stay when we picked her up. She's so tired from all the playing, she had a blast! She's usually a timid dog but at the Shaggy Shack she felt right at home! Thank you guys for taking such great care of her! We will definitely be bringing her back!
The Shaggy Shack Pet Resort and the staff are amazing and provided such a great experience for my dog, Eliza. This was a new experience for Eliza and she gets nervous, however, Eliza stayed there multiple days and was so well taken care!! The staff obviously not only love dogs but are amazing at interacting with the dogs and making sure my slightly anxious dog was grouped with calmer dogs her size. I was so pleased she was able to enjoy some socialization without feeling overwhelmed. I think she had fun with the other dogs and the great staff! Charles was fabulous at keeping me apprised of her experience and I feel completely comfortable with leaving Eliza in such great hands. The staff and owner care about these dogs as individuals with their unique needs and seem to have an instinct with helping each animal to ensure they have the best experience possible. I highly recommend this well run and caring environment for anyone's pets

Shaggy Shack has been great for our puppy since day 1. He's an ACD and has a ton of energy. We use Shaggy for daycare to help him get the exercise he needs during the work week. They love him like their own and he comes home exhausted. The staff is great and friendly and we've had great boarding experiences there as well when we've needed. It's like a second home for our pups!
We love Janice's Critter Care! We've used them several times to take care of out cats while we were away on longer trips. They take excellent care of our cats and promptly reply if we ask for an update.
We started to use Janice’s Critter Care when we moved to Federal Way in 2019 to care for our cat. The peace of mind that her team provides while we are away is most wonderful. Her communication, responsive, and loving care she provides is beyond amazing. This past December we went away when a snow storm arrived and she kept us in the loop on conditions and still made it to see our diabetic cat. This company is very personal and professional when it comes to onboarding and caring for furry loved ones. My pupper loved his carer and I'm so happy we went with them!! They left notes after their visits, and were very thorough when taking care of my old boy. I will absolutely be using them again and recommending them at every turn.
Tim & Janice have been watching our pets for 10 years now. They not only take care of feeding & exercising our dogs (mostly Newfoundlands, but we got a Rottie mix last year to add something new!), they bring in the mail and check the houseplants to see if they need water. Even better, they are able to look after our chickens when we are gone; managing their food, water and treats and giving them a little time and human conversation while gathering eggs. Our four hens are my "Birds with Benefits" and I would not trust them alone or with someone who would scare them and cause them to stop laying those delicious eggs. Diane and Chris took the most beautiful care of our boy Makena for 14 years. Keeping him beautifully trimmed and cool during the summer months and winter too. They have loved him through all stages of his life including his aging years, lifting him and gently bathing and laying him on his side to shave and trim when he could no longer stand for long. There really are no words to express our thanks and appreciation for their loving support of our dog and us too as the time drew near. He will always be missed "Makena 2010-2024".
Know the business! Diane's knowledge of breeds amazes me. Tesla Blue, my 11 month old Frenchie, melts into her hands when time for her nail trimming. Found her forever groomer and needed team for my vacation time. Highly recommend!
Staff are very friendly.Grooming affordable. Kennels smelled good. Super light and bright. Able to text them while on a trip, and they are always happy to respond with updates on how pets are doing. Lots of space. Would recommend to take your pet by to see for yourself for an orientation visit. Only feedback to be aware of is if you leave a voicemail and they don't respond quickly, don't let it divert you. They are great and caring with the family members.

We just picked our dog up after boarding him for the 1st time! He is happy and clean! I know he loved running around the huge yard and playing with the other dogs. The staff is very friendly and you can tell they love animals! Bruno will be back for sure!
Our friendly dog loves visiting here. He’s always happy after playing all day. Great for a day visit or longer boarding needs. They do grooming too so you have a tired clean pup when you pick up. Highly recommend.
Love this staff and location! Wish they were closer to us but we make the drive because our pup loves going. I like that they allow the dogs to out and play together. Ours was one tired pup coming home from here. Thanks for taking such great care of our fur baby!
Brought my Rottweiler for a week. Affordable, and she loved the experience from what I can tell the excitement to see her family coming back and the kind treatment they give all their animals. The staff is very kind and generous! They kept track if all our belongings too, and we gave them food, toys, a bed, a blanket, a bowl, a bag, and a bucket! Wanted to be as prepared as possible for a whole week! She got to have an open space to play with the other dogs and freely roam a large grassland. They definitely spoiled her.
The owners and the workers are great. They’re very friendly and attentive and treat my dog as if she is their own. She gets so excited every time we pull into the driveway to drop her off and sleeps like a baby when she is home. Their prices are also VERY reasonable compared to any other place I have looked into. We drive out of our way weekly to bring our dog here. I highly recommend White River Corral.
Great for your fur babies. Caring, attentive to dogs needs. Personal attention given. Each dog has it's own space indoors and out, nice runs. Playtime is in a group setting for nice dogs who play well with other's. Boarding and Day care
