I thoroughly enjoyed my time house and pet sitting for Barrie. The home is cosy, clean and comfortable, and situated in an absolutely beautiful part of France, with the garden bordering the Lake. It's a beautiful area with lots of water sports and walks or bike rides along the Lake or through the forests. Barrie made me feel very welcome both in communication beforehand and in my welcome on arrival, as well as in all messages that we exchanged. The " three amigos", Buddy, Bunty and Vera were an absolute delight to take care of. Straightaway they stole my heart with their super affectionate ways of getting my attention. The daily walks were a lot of fun as each of them has their own character. Barrie is a superhost, making sure you are well informed, not just about the house and the dogs but he also showed me around where the best bakeries and supermarkets were. We kept in touch on a daily basis by WhatsApp and I think I made a friend for life meeting him.
I had a wonderful, amazing, spectacular, unforgettable time housesitting for Tasha and her family over the Christmas holiday. Even those adjectives don't do justice to what a wonderful past few weeks it's been. I had about 20 minutes of in-person overlap at the beginning of the sit and, in addition to a detailed printed guide, Tasha gave me a thorough rundown of everything I needed to care for Jerry, the chickens, and to enjoy my time in Tabernash. She was incredibly generous with the use of her home and even offered to let me use use of any of their outdoor/ski gear that I might need during my stay. Jerry is an absolute sweetheart and the most easygoing dog ever! I miss him already. He loves giving kisses, cuddles, and being near people. Tasha's neighborhood is quiet and safe -- It's a small, tight-knit mountain neighborhood and neighbors will wave as they drive past :) I never felt uncomfortable taking him on walks around the neighborhood or around town by myself, even at night in the dark. Just make sure you bring a headlight! The home itself is beautiful and cozy. My mom came to housesit with me for the last 10 days of the sit and we had more than enough of space for the two of us. Some of my favorite memories include feeding the chickens each morning, doing yoga by the fireplace, cooking big dinners in the kitchen, and cozying up with Jerry on the couch and watching a movie. Last but certainly not least, the location is an outdoor lover's DREAM. Tasha's house is within a 5 minute drive from two of the top cross country ski resorts (Snow Mountain Ranch and Devils Thumb) in the US, a 15 minute drive from Winter Park ski resort, and a 30-40 minute drive from the west entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. During the 19 day housesit, I downhill skied 9 days, cross country skied 5 days, and hiked 3 days. I definitely left Tabernash in better cardiovascular health then when I arrived, especially with the higher elevation ;) Tasha, I'm sending you a virtual hug and another HUGE thank you for sharing your home with my mom and me. I would return and housesit for you again in a heartbeat!
This was a very pleasant sit! Karen's home is well located, with a sunny guest bedroom including a large desk, and a sun-trap courtyard garden. Phoenix was of course the star of the sit - she's one of the loveliest cats I've had the pleasure of sitting. It took a lot of time and patience during the first couple of days to gain her trust and get her eating properly, but after that, she gravitated to me at all opportunities, and was a joy to be around, rolling over for belly scratches, chasing treats and ribbons, exploring the garden together, or simply snoozing nearby. This is an ideal sit for a single and patient person due to Pheonix's exceptionally timid nature. Thanks for your hospitality Karen, I hope to come back and see Phoenix again soon!
