What a memorable first experience with trusted house sitters! We were so happy when Silvana and Augustin said yes to us and gave us the opportunity to look after their adorable cats, Coco and Moflete. Moflete is a very affectionate and playful guy. We instantly fell in love with his personality and playfulness. He quickly accepted and adjusted to us. Coco is such a cutie! Even though he was recently adopted from the streets and was initially shy and distant, we wanted to befriend him even more by spending a lot of time together and, of course, playing, which made him more comfortable around us. Silvana and Augustin were SOO kind - such lovely people. We met the day before they left and didn't notice how quickly 2 hours of talking went by. They gave us a tour of the house and introduced us to the cats. We immediately felt at home! The house was very clean, and even on the hottest days, it wasn't warm inside. They let us use their bikes, which was perfect for riding to the beach (20 minutes by bike). We would be more than happy to visit Valencia and pet sit for Silvana and Augustin’s cats again if we have the chance! 🥰
We had a beautiful stay at Janet and her family's house. They were very kind, charming, and attentive at all times. Janet even kindly picked me up from the airport, took me home, and gave me a tour of downtown Sunbury (Ileana). Janet and her family offered us everything they had to make us feel at home, also they left us a very clear guide with the responsabilities so everything was very easy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Their lovely house had everything for our comfort, very clean and organized. We went for walks every day to the nearby lake and explored the nearby trails. Their home is in a peaceful and charming location, perfect for connecting with nature. Moreover, the bus and train stations for getting to Melbourne were easily accessible, as well as supermarkets. A special mention goes to adorable Cody, the lovely old boy. He was a constant companion, even sleeping with us every night. He joined us for every meal, accompanied us during movie time, and even became our study and work buddy. He was an easy-going, clean, and loving pet. A companion at all times, he gave us all his love everyday, and we already miss him. It was truly a wonderful experience that we highly recommend and look forward to repeating. We can now say, "We'll always have some adorable friends in Sunbury – Cody, Janet, and her lovely family." Thank you for trusting us. We'll stay in touch until our next meeting. Thank you so much xxx
Carol and John are very welcoming and accommodating hosts! The communication was always amazing. I was offered a pickup from Lidl Paignton together with my shopping which was an amazing help as I arrived on public transport there. We had a walk with Poppy with lots of detailed information on Poppy's behavior and routine which was very helpful to assess Poppy's recall and habits. Poppy is a really friendly and energetic dog. She loves to approach people and other dogs to greet them and get affection and play. At these moments she behaves more like a big puppy than a grown-up dog so you would indeed need a muscle as she would pull. This will also happen if there is a smell of food involved, a bird or a squirrel to chase nearby. Poppy was an absolute friend that would follow me around the house wherever I'd go. She loves a lot of attention and cuddles but can also understand if you are busy working. She is a real hugger, which I really loved about her! She is a very intelligent dog that understands plenty of words and learns quickly. The area is a gem! A hiker's paradise! I absolutely loved it and had amazing luck with mostly sunny days. Together with Poppy we've made so many kilometers on the local paths seeing a lot of heritage, landmarks and amazing nature. Using great bus network was really easy with Poppy. The area is absolutely dog friendly !(this has changed in Compton Castle though) and there are many people hiking with dogs. The house is really comfortable with all amenities and commodities. I was granted use of John's office which was an absolute treat for me as I work remotely in graphics and big screen is a gem to me. To north European standards the house is rather cool as the insulation is not great and costal winds seep out the heat quickly in winter. On that account I was caringly equipped with extras of warm clothing, plenty of warm blankets and an absolute quin bed that kept me toasty warm. John's office also warmed up in a breeze with a heater. I really loved the sit. It was an intense hiking escape for me and still I couldn't pack all the sights in during my 2 weeks stay. Poppy kept me really active and I kept her active in return :). Carol and John are really warm hearted couple! Tips for the future long distance hikers: - get the feel of Poppy and her recall before you take her to cliffs, make sure your 'no' is a 'NO' and you get the feel of the commands she understands (she was great with me there but we had walked together for more than a week beforehand so I knew where I could trust her and safely let her off the lead, where she had to be on it and how strong her pull was) - there is a section of Coast Path between Kingswear and Brixham (somewhere mid-way but closer to Brixham) where sheep and wild ponies graze on the path - there are signs on the gates informing you about it - if you are not comfortable with horses and not experienced dog handler at the same time - please return or pick alternative route. If you are absolutely comfortable with both - use very short lead and COLLAR and keep Poppy behind your leg and walk slowly and well away from the horse - she was afraid of horses and donkeys and would love to chase sheep at the time of my sit. I managed to keep her under control in all of these situations being and experienced dog handler/owner, good with horses and donkeys and after some time spent with her already. - as Caroll warns, and I could quickly experience as well, Poppy can back out from the harness so I liked to have her collar with me as well - Poppy is absolutely comfortable with 10km, tired with 15 and exhausted with more, especially if in the row for couple of days. She would really appreciate you taking her water and collapsible bowl and offer her a drink on long hikes
Charlie and Jane have a very comfortable townhouse on Lansdown Rd. It's just a 15 minute walk into town and downhill all the way, so it's a good climb on the way back! I found everything I needed and the bed was super comfy. Charlie and Jane gave me a warm welcome and were keen to ensure I enjoyed my short stay. Otis is a completely adorable, cuddly, chewy, 10 month old puppy, full of fun and excited to play in the garden yet relaxed and happy about being left in the house for a while. He sleeps through the night downstairs and only barks to alert. It takes a bit of persuading to get his harness on for walks but he responds well to treats. Our walks from the house were mostly around residential streets where he did really well on the lead. I tried him off leash once on High Meadow but his recall wasn't great and the field opened onto the road so I'd only recommend this in a safe, fully enclosed space until he's more responsive. I'd definitely recommend this sit. The house is in a great location for exploring Bath on foot and Otis is a happy, friendly, fun loving puppy. I guarantee you will fall in love with him instantly!
Champ was an absolute dream to look after - such a happy, easygoing little guy and we loved taking him to the dog park and getting all of the cuddles. The house was a great location in Crows Nest and had plenty of space to work remotely. Jon gave plenty of information to help care for Champ and was great at communicating.
