We had such a lovely stay at Fiona's home. The dogs were absolutely adorable and we loved rambling the local fields and hills with them. They were very well behaved and great with our 2 kids. Ndege the parrot was such a laugh and great company. Thank you very much Fiona for having us to stay in your home and letting us spend time with your lovely menagerie.

This was an incredible time for Patrick and I. There is so much good to say I barely know where to start.

When we arrived on the property this gloriously gregarious chocolate lab raced over to greet us and we instantly knew everything others had said about Schoko was true. She is just a ball of love, trust, playfulness and will have your back at all times. She's an expert at plucking a ball out of the air and can run after it through rail fences like quicksilver. At night she happily kept us company by the warm woodstove, sleeping on her bed in our room after completing several surveillance "Bark Abouts", as we called them, to let the local wildlife know she was on duty. In the morning she would press her head against us and lean in for snuggles before accompanying us on light duty chores: feed and water chickens, collect eggs, check on the barn cats' food and feed the horses their oats and supplements. We LOVED taking her to the beach and watching her dive into the lake after her ball.

The horses, Babe and Dude, are big and friendly, always vocally greeting us with excitement when they saw the bucket coming. We also liked giving them carrots and apples. When we moved them from their winter pen to the pasture, they still came galloping when we called them. This was Patrick's first experience with horses and in no time he loved being around them as much as I do. He even groomed their business ends with confidence that grew every time.

2 of the 3 barn cats are extremely shy, but their momma, Lady, always came for scratches and Patrick snuggles. She would roll on her back, kneading the air with her paws, looking for love. She is strictly an outdoor cat at the request of Ulf and Sabine, but her little face looking in a window will TRY to convince you otherwise.

The chickens are a friendly lot that walked right up to us in the mornings to see what kitchen scraps were on offer, along with their seed. They lay a beautiful array of colours - dark brown speckled, pink, olive, light green, and brown. Our own chickens only ever gave us brown so that was a cool thing to see every day. Sadly we had a bear attack them, near the end of our stay, while they were out and about. The beautiful, friendly, quiet rooster, Henry, died trying to defend his girls. He was a gentleman right to the end and we were so sorry to have been the ones to break such bad news. But Ulf and Sabine were gracious and never made us feel at fault.

It was very easy to settle into the guest cottage. Easier than most sits because of aaaalllllll the space for our food and personal items. It is fully equipped with linens, dishes etc, but having empty cupboards, fridge, freezer and bathroom drawers made getting comfortable a breeze. It's fully equipped with fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, television with dvd player. The main bedroom is roomy and comfortable with a huge closet, the smaller bedroom has a set of bunkbeds for the young 'uns.

Watching the grass start to grow, leaves return to the trees, the garden sprouting and the lake level rising was something we loved every minute of. Walking the beach and seeing such a huge variety of wildlife tracks was always enlightening and deer were constant presences.

Sabine and Ulf will be counted as friends from now on and we hope to visit their slice of Heaven again.

Thank you both again for a much needed experience.

John
I really enjoyed my stay at the cottage with Finn over Christmas and would definitely recommend this sit. John is a friendly and generous host. He invited me over a few days in advance to settle into the cottage. When I arrived he took time to show me around the property and to show me the best places to walk Finn in the locality.
Finn is a friendly, happy dog and a great companion. John has trained him extremely well . He is very obedient and will always come to his whistle when out walking. The cottage has a nice layout , is well insulated and has a stove so was very cosy over winter. The location is excellent with stunning views over Lough Derg. There are plenty of woodlands and lake side walks to explore in the area with Finn. I work from home and found the internet connection and phone coverage very good for my needs.

We really enjoyed our weekend at John and Portia’s wonderful, comfortable barn conversion.
Ozzy and Bumper are lovely affectionate dogs. They love their walks but also like to cuddle up on the sofa.
There are some great walks along the river at Sonning and further afield at Henley.
John and Portia were welcoming and kept in touch throughout the weekend.
All in all a great housesit.

Arielle
We really loved our stay at Arielle's and John's place. The cats are wonderful companions and they adapted to us very quickly. Arielle and John are super friendly and they helped us feel at home right away. Their instructions were clear and they even gave us some advices on what to do in the neighborhood. We recommend this sit to people who love cats and traveling!
