Claire and Mark are super sitters. We were so grateful that Claire came to sit for Lulu, even though she had hurt her back and couldn’t enjoy long walks or to see the sights. They are very experienced sitters, well-organised, patient and calm and managed Lulu very well. Lulu is still young and can be boisterous and excitable but they handled her with confidence derived from experience. They were very flexible, arriving the evening before to allow us to get away early the following day, and stayed to give us face to face feedback on their sit. Their feedback on our Welcome Guide was very helpful. We would happily recommend Claire and Mark to take good care of both your house and your pet and would welcome them back in Tisbury any day.
For context, my husband and I have two dogs and two cats. Originally Rachel and Paul were only supposed to take care of one dog and the two cats, but a change of plan meant that we had to leave our other dog with them also. We fully acknowledge that it’s a lot of animals that need a lot of attention, but that’s how house-sitting works—if you can’t handle the responsibility, you shouldn’t book the sit. We were very upfront from the beginning about the level of care needed. We are always pretty hands off with sitters but like to receive occasional check-ins and hear how the pets are doing. During our trip we barely heard from them and had to ask for updates on the pets. We were worried and didn’t know what was going on at home. The only update we ever received was “everything is fine.” When we got home, we found the couch covered in dried urine. It looks like they completely neglected to clean the cats’ litter boxes for the whole week. Our cat is very picky about the litter box, which we explained to them. We hadn’t been told about any accidents and nobody had attempted to clean up the pee on the couch. Our cat is also on a vet prescribed diet, and based on the cans open in the fridge it looks they were feeding her the wrong food. Our other cat is quite skittish and needs privacy to eat. How to feed her is detailed in the Welcome Guide. I also had a call with Rachel and explained how to do it. They seemingly ignored all instructions and I didn’t hear that our skittish cat wasn’t eating until several days in. I had to follow up again for an update to hear how she was doing. We have never had this kind of thing happen before with a sitter. As mentioned, we have a welcome guide with clear instructions on pet care and it appears they just ignored it. I also had a call with Rachel to discuss details and we met with them for 20 minutes before leaving to walk them through everything prior to leaving. It seems any instructions we provided were disregarded.
Esther was a great house sitter! She cared for my elderly beagle, Molly, who needed meds twice a day and took great care of her. Molly was happy and content when I came home. I think Esther may have even left my house cleaner than she found it! I would so happy to have her house sit for me again.
