Our time taking care of Pixie was an absolute treat. She is such a sweet, friendly cat who has a calm temperament and loves cuddling up with you. What a wonderful sit this was with super friendly kitties, chickens and guinea fowl, all kinds of birds, lovely river views, a robust veggie garden, beautiful trees and flowers, tranquility, and awesome homeowners Terry and Mary. CATS: Pooter and Tater are very much lap cats, love their cuddles and massages, and will have a full conversation with you. Cosmo loves his cuddle time too, and loves to lizard hunt and then lay out on the porch. Nikka stays indoors compared to the other cats, and is a very sweet little lady who is affectionate and will have a little squeaky chit chat with you. She likes to stay out in the sunroom on her chair. Vache is new to the family and took a little time to warm up, but soon was in the house for feeding time, scratches and affection. Pooter, Tater and Cosmo take some meds, but all is easy to administer. They get fed twice a day, litter boxes cleaned daily, and of course fresh water. Pooter, Tater, Cosmo and Vache are indoor / outdoor cats who come and go as they please -- they will go on farm walks with you, and watch as you harvest veggies and tend to the chickens. Very cute. They love to snuggle at bed time too. CHICKENS, GUINEA FOWL & VEGGIE GARDEN: They are so fun to watch and hang out with! The chickens are free range and will go to their coops at the end of the day. At that time, feed them, and close their coops up to protect them from predators. Guinea fowl may join them or roost in the trees. You can collect the eggs then too (yummy if you like eggs!) Eggs go to the community food bank as do harvested veggies, should you choose to do so. We enjoyed harvesting in the mornings, then letting the chickens out to roam. It was lovely to see the workings of the food bank - very much needed during these pandemic times. And lovely that Mary and Terry actively grow and donate so much food! BIRDS, HOME & GARDEN: We stayed in both the luxurious 34ft Airstream and the farm house. Both wonderfully comfortable with all the kitchen/living utensils one would need (plus kittens for extra comfort and entertainment). The Airstream is up in the trees, so nice and shaded, and overlooks the river. The farmhouse has a nice front porch to watch the birds, and river views from the back sun room. The patio plants need watering daily, and the hummingbird feeders and back seed feeders kept up with - all easy. Indoor plants need little watering. Mary and Terry do have a farm hand to care for the major outdoor needs like cleaning the chicken coops, mowing, watering the garden, etc. There is also a cleaning lady that comes weekly. Terry and Mary were great to communicate with before and during the sit. They welcomed us with a delicious homecooked meal, some wine, and wonderful conversations. We had a lot in common and fun spending time with them the evening they returned too - and yet, another delicious meal! Thank you Terry and Mary for such a fantastic experience. We hope to see you all again. We miss the kitties and the chickies!
Jane was fantastic at being flexible when things didn’t go quite to plan! And she has the best mum in the world! I felt very welcome to Jane’s lovely home. Very clear communication and great support. The cats were very entertaining, as cats are, providing me with a few chuckles and a few panic attacks when they disappeared to secret locations. But very cuddly! I would definitely like to return.
Amy and Andrew were great hosts! Diana and Bill were super cool to sit for as well :) Very laid back and like to hang out with you once they start to get comfortable with you. Diana will sit next to you on the couch while you watch a movie. The area is super nice as well, shops and public transit is very easy to get to. Would 100% recommend sitting for them if you get the chance!
My son and I absolutely loved our house-sitting gig, and a huge shoutout goes to Sioux, Robbie, Nova, and Smokey for making it unforgettable. Right from the get-go, we felt welcomed and it didn’t take long for us to fall for the crew - each with their own quirky charm. Honestly, saying goodbye was harder than we thought it'd be. If you ever get the chance to hang with these guys, just go for it. The warmth, the kindness, and all those special moments? Totally unmatched.
