Vicki made this stay very easy and relaxing. Thank you. The stay with Ziggy a playful but chilled cat in Vicki's apartment was great. Ziggy was very easy to look after. A bit of play, feeding and cuddles was all that he needed. The apartment is in a great position just 15 minutes walk at most to all the town, port and beaches offer.
If you are lucky enough to land this house-sit, you hit the house-sit lottery! Ann and Gary were fantastic hosts. Communication was great and clear instructions were left. Bentley is an adorable puppy who is good on walks and a great sleeper at night. He loves everybody - no stranger anxiety for him! He enjoyed going to the beach and going on hikes with us. He likes to look for lizards and the jumping fish on the docks at night. The condo has a huge screened porch where you can watch gorgeous sunsets and eat meals while watching the manatees in the harbour. We saw dolphins playing (jumping and twirling in the water) during every morning and evening walk. There is a heated pool and hot tub on the property. The beautiful beaches of Boca Grande are less than 20 minutes away. There is a Publix 2 minutes away and the condo has the most well-equipped kitchen I've ever seen if you like to cook like we do. We felt very much at home there and can't wait to return!
Our stay was above and beyond expectations! Almmar is a sweet, friendly, and curious dog who loves to cuddle and is easy to care for. She knows exactly what she wants, and when she allows you to pet her, you know it's from the heart. We were amused to discover that she's not as enthusiastic about eating or going for walks as other dogs, and prefers to spend her days lounging around the house. We sometimes had to coax her with treats, which were definitely helpful. Amy welcomed us warmly and was very caring. The house itself is cozy, spacious, and well-located close to public transportation, restaurants, and cafes, as well as nature and fresh air. Amy and Glenn were available to answer any questions we had. We are so grateful for the opportunity we were given, and we had a wonderful experience!
I had the best time hanging out with Walter and Kitty in this beautiful home right near the seawall! Pamela was so lovely, and took the time to make sure I had everything I needed to make this sit a breeze, was always there when I needed her and was also so generous to offer the use of anything in the kitchen - the coffee machine was such a treat. Walter and Kitty are the absolute cutest!! They each have a very chilled, cuddly personality, always floating around nearby and looking to keep me company. I will miss them both, and look forward to any future stay with them. Thanks again, Pamela, for opening your home up to me!
I really enjoyed meeting Alice and Tina and had a lovely time during this sit. Alice’s place is really well located just a minute from the shore and a couple of minutes away from the centre of the town. The flat is a little sparse, more like a holiday let, as Alice isn’t living there long-term but that didn’t affect my enjoyment at all, less to clean at the end! The view from the big balcony is wonderful and a real highlight. Tina is a sweet and shy little cat who needs her food puréed but this only took a minute each day. She was initially ok with me being around but towards the end of the week she became more withdrawn and stopped eating, just hid under the bed. This was a little worrying but Alice had warned me this might happen. We kept in regular contact and Alice was able to guide me on how to handle this to make sure Tina was ok. All in all a great sit despite a few worries!
This was my first experience with TrustedHousesitters and it was PHENOMENAL! Seriously, I can't possibly overstate how great everything was. This will set a high bar for all of my future sits, and I hope to have many! The People: Before I even arrived, I felt that I was being treated like one of the family. Diane and Loren are SO WONDERFUL! They wanted to me to feel and act like I was at home and there's no question from their actions they meant it. Diane went out of her way to ask me about groceries that she could get for me before I arrived. They even went the extra mile to encourage me to enlist one of their kids to help for a day so I could visit Glacier National Park. Due to my travel plans, I asked if it was okay for me to arrive earlier than they needed to which they were happy to accommodate. This ended up being great because I had a couple days to get to know them and get my bearings. Loren made and printed a table of the chores that needed to be done and their schedule so it was SUPER easy to make sure I was on top of everything. The Pets: Where to even begin? There were actually 5! Jax, Gemma, and Lucy are the dogs. Zoe and Hobbs are the cats. It may seem like a lot, but caring for them was super smooth and such an incredible pleasure. Overall I would say they are pretty low maintenance. You're basically hanging out in a wonderful home with the best companions you could ask for! There's a feeding routine in the morning and evening that they all clearly know (and Gemma will make sure you remember). Aside from that, they are happy to chill and sleep for the better part of the day. I was working remotely the entire time and it wasn't difficult at all to manage that alongside caring for the house and pets. The dogs' routine is such that they're ready for a good play session when it's quitting time. And it is so so so fun! In fact, I found myself playing with them twice a day (around 1-2 and at 5) and then doing a really nice low effort hike with Jax and Gemma (and sometimes Lucy) afterwards along this nice trail that follows the river directly next to their house. It really is such a pleasure. Zoe and Hobbs mostly did their own thing. I was fortunate enough to get some nice cuddling from time to time, but generally the dogs will be much more eager for your attention. Hobbs may leave you some "gifts" on the back patio if you're lucky (not) haha. Something to be aware of if cleaning up dead stuff is an issue. The Home: Great home! Diane and Loren are really living the dream. It is so comfortable and cozy you'll never want to leave. They have anything you could possibly need and are so hospitable. After a good session of play with the dogs and then feeding everyone, it was perfect to be able to wind down in the hot tub or laying on the couch with the fire place glowing. Also, I must say for having 5 animals in the house it is really really clean! The Place: Alberton is really small town and the home is not really even in it. It's across a single lane bridge over the river and down some small back roads to a quaint little neighborhood (really just collection of some houses). So generally you're quite isolated which I think was wonderful and serene, but not *so* isolated you'd be in trouble if something happened. A short drive away, across the bridge and then across the highway, is the town of Alberton. In my experience it was basically down and back the "main" street. There's a really neat used book store worth checking out. I also managed to get a nice bit of groceries from the little store. Otherwise, you're about 30 minutes away from Missoula on the highway, which I think is just about perfect. You'll want to go here for groceries as the store in Alberton is super small. I only found myself going once for that reason and to check out a few other places, but that's only because I enjoyed myself so much at home I didn't care to leave. It looked like a cool place with a bunch of interesting of bars and restaurants to check out.
