I had the best time with Mars, the sweetest one-eyed pup around! Mars is very well behaved, loves to play fetch, and cuddle on the couch. Candace provided very clear instructions about how to care for Mars and her home so I knew exactly what was expected of me, and she responded quickly when I had a question about the TV. Candace is one of the friendliest people you'll ever meet and her home is a haven. I especially loved spending time in her cozy backyard, eating my meals on the huge porch and watching all the birds. It's a perfect little nature escape just outside of DC!
If you made it this far and have read Barbara and John's writeup of their lovely home and pets, you already know everything you need to know. It's okay if you hesitate... I, or someone else, will gladly apply! Everything about this sit was top-notch: the homeowners, the beloved pets, and the uniquely situated home on beautiful property. I truly cherished all facets of this experience. It was as though I was the winner of a Vermont writer's retreat with two lovely cats! Communication with Barbara is what you hope all interactions with people will be like: warm, open and generous. Everything you need to know is thoughtfully detailed in the Welcome Guide and she's fantastically responsive should you have any questions. The ability to go trekking up Mt. Philo straight from the front door is A++! The cabin itself is desirably outfitted with comfort at every turn, strong lighting, and uplifting decor. The toughest decision you'll make is answering which glorious couch you will plant yourself in first. The buttery tobacco leather sofa in the living room with a book and a cat on your lap? Or perhaps in the front room on a divine blue davenport where you can peacefully recenter as you meditate on the mountains in the distance while Spitty naps next to you and Saul peers out the windows? The best part of the sit, of course, is the lovely felines. Both greeted me upon arrival, Spitty waiting by the front door and Saul greeting me in the kitchen. I have a lot of experience with cats and S&S are very easygoing, loving personalities. Not once did I enter a room when Saul didn't give me a loving head butt or nose boop; he was a real snuggler at night. Spitty will love you for opening his wet food and filling his bowl, but is also so grateful for your company and gentle pets. The boys were very easy to settle into a routine with and provided daily amusement and entertainment. They both enjoyed playing, snuggling and just being cute. It was hard to leave these two amazing cats and I only hope that we cross paths again someday! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
If you love the outdoors and sweet dogs with unique personalities, this home is for you. The home is a classic old-time Hudson Valley farmhouse on a working farm. I spend every moment I could outdoors either hiking with the dogs on the gorgeous loop trail on Gabe and Cecilia's large property or seated on the front porch or picnic tables overlooking the river, watching the ducks and geese swimming by while pretending to work. In the evenings, I enjoyed looking up at the stars from their hot tub and then watching movies on their fabulous wall-size projector upstairs. Gabe and Cecilia are extremely easygoing and flexible hosts who have a very well thought-through system that allows the dogs the freedom to play outside or to be walked on the property with only an electric leash. Kika, Romeo and I bonded so quickly and deeply that I am missing them badly after just over a week with them. Romeo is a warm-hearted guy who is wild about getting attention - and luckily is well trained to step down when he gets too enthusiastic. Kika is bright and sweet-tempered with humans. They are well trained and an absolute delight to spend time with. I have done a lot of housesitting over the years and will definitely remember this as a wonderful experience. I would take the opportunity to sit for them again any time.
Thank you Cordula and Nick, it was an absolute pleasure to care for your most adorable dog Prince and to look after your house. It was great to meet you and your family the night before you left, this also meant we had plenty of time to get all the information we needed. We enjoyed being in your quiet neighbourhood and so close to nature. Having said that the public transport connections to Zurich were also excellent and meant we could go in and out of the city whenever we wanted to. We are so grateful that we got to spend some time in this part of the world, it was really a wonderful experience for us.
Conner was the best host! Everything was organized and communication was perfect. We didn’t get the opportunity to meet Ella but Rock is the most well behaved Frenchie we have ever met. Such a sweetie! Kitty was awesome as well 😊 Their place is in a cute area and we found it well connected via transit from the airport and downtown. Which was nice since we didn’t pick up a car until day 2. If you take the doggies on a walk one street east of them you can see views of the skyline. If you have the opportunity to sit for Conner run don’t walk! Hopefully we get the chance again! Thank you!!
