I housesat for Terri and Chris and took care of Kush the cat for six weeks from April-May. It was a fantastic opportunity. Kush was an absolute darling to look after. She has a very calm temperament, and really doesn't ask for much except for food and cuddles. She definitely let me know when she was hungry, especially between 7-8am, and she loves the chance to cuddle whenever I was sitting down :D It took her a good few days to grow used to my presence, but we were firm friends when she came out of her shell. She is very quick to purr and it's so sweet that so many things make her happy. As an older cat, she spent most of her days either sunning herself in the garden, sleeping next to a heater or near the sofa, or watching me in the kitchen! Terri and Chris have an incredibly lovely house in a beautiful part of Calgary. It's a very large place with four floors, though there were a lot of rooms I didn't use such as their work studios. Sometimes it could be a lot to take care of as one person. The house is completely stocked head to toe with absolutely anything one could need. The kitchen was particularly faantastic. Terri and Chris were also kind enough to leave me lots of vegetables, and the main supermarket was only a twenty-minute walk away. There are shops, cafes, and other activities like a swimming pool within easy reach of the house, and a very reliable bus service. The house is right in front of an off-leash dog park, and it was so great to be to see so many dogs. The park has a fantastic circular walk which was a staple of my days. There are also extensive walking/cycle paths close to the house. It's a very quiet area; you can barely hear traffic from the street and it's usually silent at night. The back garden has lots of lovely spaces to relax. The weather was quite erratic, so there were stretches of hot, sunny days where I watered, and other stretches where it rained or snowed and the garden got what it wanted :) Terri and Chris greeted me warmly and went through everything I needed to know when I arrived. They were very accommodating and we had a chance to connect over supper before they left the next morning. They also provided an extensive Welcome Guide, and were available to answer questions when needed. Looking after Kush is real pleasure and I definitely recommend this sit!
I sat for Toothless and Pixel (Waffles was out of town as well) and the furry friends were a treat to be with and really easy to care for. I loved my lazy mornings and evenings with the 2 kitties. As described, the house was an older craftsman that obviously has an active family of four living there, but everything was clean and more than comfortable. And the location was great, away from the big city center, but still in an urban neighborhood with all the amenities. I'd love to sit here again and hopefully get some time with Waffles too next go around! :-)
Marie and her family are wonderful hosts! She is very easy to communicate with and was extremely helpful throughout my stay. The neighbourhood is also fantastic! There is a unique and friendly community feel, which enabled me to feel safe and comfortable. Tabby is also a wonderful kitten - extremely sweet natured, playful and a lot of fun. Would highly recommend!
My sit at Phillipa"s home was really enjoyable. It's a beautiful house with everything you need. I was in the lap of luxury. Tiger is a very sweet, well behaved puss, although he does let you know what he wants and when he wants it. The area is beautiful plenty of lovely walks and things to see. Philipa is very kind and welcoming and made me feel very comfortable and at home. I highly recommend this sit.
We absolutely loved our time in Balquhidder. Ollie is the most laid-back, well-behaved and all round awesome dog. We absolutely fell in love with him. He is great on and off lead, always happy to go for a walk, and also very chilled at home. The surrounding area is awe inspiring. There are many lovely walks straight from the door. We also enjoyed venturing further field. we took an incredible drive-through Glencoe, which we would really recommend. Jill and David were very welcoming and relaxed homeowners. They greeted us with a home-cooked meal on the night we arrived and gave us a thorough handover. We appreciated that they wanted us to have a good time and enjoy their home and surrounding area. The home is very comfortable and has everything that you need. We enjoyed the hot tub and the log burner (which kept the house lovely and warm even in January). Overall, this was a great housesit. We would thoroughly recommend it and love to come back.
You will be lucky if you get to meet this incredible family. They are so thoughtful, funny, and care deeply about their pets. Ice Cream and Cookie are absolute dreams. It didn’t take long for them to warm up to us - by the second night, they were totally hogging the bed! It was a pleasure helping out and training Icy and Cookie, and being able to show the family everything we worked on and seeing them implement new strategies for the pups meant the world to us. We very much hope our paths meet again. If another sit is available in the future, definitely apply.
