We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Dartmouth housesitting for Nici and Colin. Lovely people, lovely pets and lovely setting. The pets were very cute and easy to look after. We enjoyed exploring Dartmouth with its many cafes, pubs and boats.

Heather
Heather and her family were so incredibly welcoming to us! Heather let us know that Dizzy would likely be a little apprehensive of us, but by the first night he was snuggling up to my husband, and we just adored him! The historic neighborhood is delightful and very walkable. We enjoyed a fire in the fireplace nearly every night. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, and would highly recommend sitting for Heather!

Carolyn
The horse, dog and cats were loving, gentle and obedient. We had a good week together. Carolyn is a lovely host and very thorough in her preparation for us sitters. She explains the animal and housekeeping duties very clearly and this was extremely useful.

This housesit is not for the faint-hearted as Carolyn in our pre-sit video conversation made clear. Looking after a horse is work – anyone used to looking after a horse will know this. It requires regular feeding, daily grooming and mucking out the stable and the paddock. A horse is a responsibility and these duties cannot be put off till tomorrow. Having said that, it was a very rewarding experience and the first time I had actually cared for a horse (even though I have horse riding experience, being a horse parent is the not the same thing).

I brought my own work with me as an online teacher but speaking to no one all day in an isolated setting was at times unsettling – I had anticipated this before I took on the sit so it wasn't a problem – but I think future sitters should be aware of this.

It was a very good experience, Carolyn's place is beautiful and colourful – I love colour! – and the Sierra Nevada is stunning...

Juliette
Juliette lives in a wonderful spot in lovely Topsham in a gorgeous, well equipped, organised house with adorable, good natured Potato and Timothy whom it was an absolute pleasure to look after. Juliette could not be kinder or more helpful.

Lucinda
This was a lovely housesit. I was met by Charles who showed me around, and had handwritten instructions to cover everything.

The 3 dogs had very different personalities. Sukie lived up to her name, she was very sooky and became my friend immediately, claiming my lap as her spot, before Charles had even reached the motorway.

Womble gave me a fright after only half an hour, as with all doors in the room shut, I could not see him anywhere! Slight panic! Then I discovered that he lies on any of the numerous dog beds, but completely covers himself up with a blanket or the cover!

He must be an early contender for Cleish "Hide and Seek champion of the year".

Scrumpy is old, 17, but he potters about quite contentedly, and could even manage a short sprint when out on his solo walk.

The 2 Dachshunds also could turn on some pace, with one either side of me on leads, we did a quick short jog, and I felt like a charioteer. They loved it.

The house was lovely, with enclosed secure space where they could run free, outside of their regular Walkies times.

My bedroom was lovely, with views over the fields, and the double bed very, very comfortable. Towels were provided.

The kitchen oven was easy to use, and there was a gas hob on the kitchen island. There was space left for my groceries in the fridge and in a food cupboard.

There are real fires in 2 of the rooms, with a ready supply of cut logs and kindlings. I sat on settee in front of roaring fire with Sukie on my lap most of the time, and Womble was nearly always close by, when not hiding. They get on well together.

There is a Sainsbury in Kinross just 10 minutes drive away, I also ventured to the village shop in Crook of Devon, a place which I have often seen signposted from the motorway, twinned with the Thief of Baghdad, possibly!

I didn't venture further away, although Loch Leven Nature Reserve is close by, but being local ish, (living in Edinburgh) I had been before. Also, it wasn't the best of weather for venturing out, this time.

A lovely find in the village was the red phone box opposite the house, which is stocked with a defibrillator and has a library of second hand books which you can borrow on a "take one, leave one in it's place" basis. I picked one by a Scottish crime author new to me, and am enjoying it.

This was only my 2nd ever dog sit, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I never met Lucinda but communications before and during the sit were good.

If I got the chance to sit for Lucinda and Charles again, I definitely would say Yes please!
