A perfect sit!
I felt very welcome in the house of Charlie and Ellie and their three sweet daughters. I was given dinner, taken on a tour of the walks from the house and through the instructions for my stay, which had already been detailed in the meticulously prepared Welcome Guide ( so I hardly needed more info afterwards) . They also, very generously, trusted me with a wonderful automatic car.
The house is spotless and luxurious, out of the pages of an interior decoration magazine, light-filled and easy to maintain in spite of being very spacious. I felt very privileged to have my own elegant bath!
Nutbourne is a quaint village with its own pub and very picturesque cottages in lush vegetation, like all the area which I found incredibly green.
And now for the dogs: one typical Lab, obedient, well trained and eager to please. One dachshund, a bit of a drama queen, very vocal, independent like all dachs. Both adorable and I enjoyed walking them on the network of footpaths from the house.
So, what was there not to like!
( Ah yes, I wouldn't especially recommend the white wine from the vineyard next door, but that may be me being French:) )

My stay was wonderful! Lydia did a great job describing the animals needs and mannerisms so I was well prepared to take care of them. Joey is a playful dog and easy to manage and Tofu was a sweetheart senior cat. Both animals are very cuddly. The house is a great location to mountain activities. Would love to sit for them again!

Kona, Bindi, and Bruce were awesome during our weekend together. Kona has a high energy and loves soccer! Bindi was a bit shy and took time getting comfortable around us but when she did she was very sweet. Bruce wasn’t home much but he was very calm and relaxed.
Kristen and Kevin were amazing hosts and their house was beautiful! They allowed us to ride their bikes and was a great experience!

I loved getting to know Pichu. He is such a sweet dog and a snugglebug. He wanted to be wherever I was, except for some reason I was expecting to sleep with him and he decided to hang out on the chair in the play room. I didn't get to use the pool much because it was grey and rainy but it would be refreshing on a hot day. The house has everything you might need for your stay. Alexis was super easy to communicate with and friendly on the phone. We did not meet in person.

Personally, I don’t recommend this sit!

My experience was very negative. It started seemingly well…

Sneak - a shy cat who normally shows up only on the 3rd day - came to greet me as soon as Thomas left. The next day, I was petting him already and then he was rubbing against my legs, asking for more caresses. He is so sweet! What's more, feeling safe with me, he started having appetite and eating nicely. Previously, from what Thomas said, he didn't eat out of fear.

Samson accompanied me from the beginning and was cool until... Every morning he has his "ritual of madness" around 9:00 a.m.: he runs fast like crazy from the stairs to the sofa back and forward and jumps on the walls. I thought he was stressed, so I played him relaxing music for cats, gave him massages and a cat SPA.

I petted both cats and cared for them a lot.

I also took care of approx. 50 plants in the house, cut off dry leaves (a full 30 L garbage bag) and watered them twice a day because that's how much they needed to be in good condition.

The owner washed the bathroom and changed the bed before my arrival. However, I needed to spend min. 12 hours to get this house ready for use. It was very dirty. Dust and cobwebs everywhere. Nothing could be touched in the kitchen. Every kitchen equipment, spices and food products were covered with dust and stuck to the hands.

As it was my first sit on this platform, I did everything in my power to post and get positive review. I bet just like my predecessors did... But what happened, happened…

I talked to the owner many times before my arrival, but he told me the most important news only once I was there. Namely that his cats have a habit of eating breakfast between 4 and 5 a.m. and will wake you up until you get up and feed them.

The problem was that time after time Samson wanted more and became more and more insistent.

One morning I fed them at 4 a.m., 5 a.m., 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. to have some peace and get some rest, although the owner wants Samson to lose weight. Samson eats Sneak's food and attacks him all the time. At 8 a.m. Samson reappeared in the bed next to my head. I decided that 4 breakfasts were more than enough, so I tried to continue sleeping. Then he lunged at my face with his teeth. I dodged and he jumped at my hand. Moments later on the leg. He scratched me deeply and painfully until I bled.

I wanted to find some solution to stay until the end of my planned sit. First on my own, but when Samson scratched me again until I bled, I felt powerless and I wrote to the owner to ask what to do to make his cat stop attacking me.

He got offended because his cat had never done it to him. He didn't even ask if I was ok. He wrote that he couldn't help me and the only solution, according to him, was me to leave as quickly as possible and replace me with someone else…

We agreed that I would stay until June 30. I packed my things, cleaned the house, washed bedding and towels, made the bed, fed the cats, left the key in a safe place and sent a photo to the owner so he knew where it was.

I had a hard time getting out of this village cut off from all civilization, where even a taxi wouldn't come for a special fee.

The views are beautiful, I must admit. It is an ideal place for people who want to be cut off from the world, do a retreat and get up at 4 am. Unfortunately, this hour is too early for me.

I'm very sorry it ends this way… I'm sad that the owner didn't want to find a solution together for me to stay... I'm sorry that he isn’t able to acknowledge my efforts and didn't thank me for anything, neither for what I did for his house nor for his cats. Well...

Our month-long sit at Carl and Feather's beautiful ranch was an absolute joy! Everything was exactly as described, and they did a very thorough job of explaining to us all the care their different animals needed. We loved spending time with Cookie, King, and Oscar, and feeding the horses and chickens in the morning was a highlight of the stay. The house was very clean and comfortable, and Carl and Feather were wonderful, generous hosts. We hope to come back again!
