We had such a great time at Oly and Liz's homestay watching Rosie the dog! Liz and Oly were the most hospitable and welcoming homeowners we've met yet through THS. When we arrived, they showed us their home and everything we might need for the ~2 weeks that we stayed. They even cooked us a dinner of salmon and zucchini (it was delicious!). They're a very worldly couple with a great sense of humor and great stories to tell. They run an Airbnb on their property (which they shut down for our stay) so being good hosts comes naturally to them. They provided us with a variety of contacts in the area who we could reach out to if we had any issues with Rosie or the home. One such person was Steve, a friend and dog trainer. Steve came over with his dogs so Rosie could have a playdate. We also went over to Steve's with Rosie so she could play there. Steve is very nice and it was great to see Rosie let loose and play with her dog friends. Rosie is such a sweet girl. She is so well behaved. Rosie knows fun tricks like jumping through hoops and dropping the ball in your hand when you play fetch. Watching her get the zoomies on the open property is a blast and playing with her is super fun. On hikes, she can pull quite strong on the leash, so you'll want to keep a tight grip, but it's just because she's so excited to be outside and hiking along with you. When she's not running around outside, she's a great companion. She liked to spend most of her time shadowing one of us. She's a love bug and enjoys cuddling. She enjoyed sleeping with us on the bed at night. She can also be a whiny little girl, but not to the point of it being an issue. She cried when one of us would go outside without her or when she was hungry, so most of the time she was just communicating with us. Overall Rosie is a great dog. We will miss her a lot and we hope to see her again soon. The property is quite lovely. The home itself was cozy and had enough supplies for us for the stay. We stayed exclusively on the first floor, which was more than enough for the two of us. The kitchen in particular was well stocked with all varieties of tools and ingredients for cooking that they let us use. The home sits on several acres of property which includes the Airbnb. They left the Airbnb open for us to use. This was very nice as we both work remote jobs and need separate spaces to work. The property also includes a fruit tree orchard, a fire pit, a stream that leads into a sizeable pond, a vegetable garden that they let us eat from, and a wooded area. For us nature lovers, it was perfect. The area is also quite nice. While the listing says Ellenville, it really is in Woodbourne NY, about 25 minutes out of Ellenville. It is nice and secluded and private, but they still have neighbors you could go to if you needed. Most stores are ~15-25 minutes away. There is a lot of great hiking in the area. We reccomend Shawangunk Ridge, Sundown Wilderness, and Minnewaska State Park for hiking. Rosie loved to hike with us and we loved to hike with her! This was an incredible stay. We have nothing bad to say about it. Oly and Liz are wonderful people who live in a wonderful home on a wonderful property in a wonderful area. Rosie is a wonderful dog who deserves all the walks and belly rubs. If you like nature and hiking, this is the stay for you. If you have an opportunity to do this sit, don't miss out!!!
