Irene & Jim looked after our house and little dog for 5 weeks through August 2018. They did a spectacular job. When we returned the house was immaculate and Matty the dog was very fit and happy. They put up lots of photos on Facebook and we saw how happy & content he was. They even cooked a lovely chicken dinner for us on the day we got back. Rosemary left the house clean and tidy and was easy to communicate before the sit and responded quickly whilst on our holidays. However Rosemary did not share frequent updates of walks or activities with our dog Maple. We had planned an introduction walk during a crossover at the start of the sit but unfortunately, Rosemary turned up 40 mins later than planned so this was not possible. Unfortunately for some reason Maple didn’t seem to fit with Rosemary as she displayed an out of character tendency to chew Rosemary’s items during the sit (she hasn’t chewed items in well over 1 year now, and when she did chew items it was usually out of boredom). The first chewing incident occurred with an item that was left in a place easily accessible to Maple even though our guide recommended keeping things behind closed doors upstairs. The second incident involved shoes which was so out of character that we hadn’t considered a separate storage location for shoes to keep them away from Maple. We agreed to terminate the sit early as we were unsure what was happening. This was a stressful sit and definitely distracted us from our holiday. Maple needed at least an hour of continuous walking a day and she appreciates some attention throughout the day and we don’t feel Rosemary provided this, which lead to Maple’s unwanted behaviour. We were informed by our emergency contacts that when they collected Maple, she had a clear change of character and we are puzzled as to why this was. Rosemary was amicable with the cancellation of the sit and whilst we don’t think any malice was intended, we believe a lack of attention for our young energetic dog was the reason for the early termination of the sit. Unfortunately the sitting process didn’t work for us during this holiday.
Is it better to board cats or leave at home?
