We had a wonderful 3 weeks with Astro and Lily at Kathy and Peter's in Kelowna. Kathy and Peter were very easy to communicate with right from the beginning through to the day of their return. They are accommodating, easy going, and made us feel at home immediately. They live in a beautiful, quiet neighbourhood that we explored to the fullest. We had so much fun with Astro and Lily. They both have such strong, but very different personalities. They loved being near us as much as possible, loved their walks, and especially loved playing with their toys. They listen, are funny but well behaved, and like to cuddle. We already miss those two, and certainly won't ever forget them. We feel very fortunate to have been able to sit Astro and Lily.

Andrew & Lorraine
Andy and Lorraine have to have been the best hosts we’ve ever had. They were kind and considerate, allowing us to come a day before to get used to the space and show us around. We even were able to stay a day later so we could fly out easier! They have written information in a booklet, were clear and frequent communicators, extremely sweet, and cared for us as much as they care for Toby and Macy.

Miriam, their neighbor, was extremely kind and we leaned on her a few times to mind Toby and Macy when we went out without him. Caroline, their cleaner was also very sweet and they all gave us recommendations on things to do and see during our stay.

Roundwood is an adorable town. Filled with so much greenery and it really has amenities. Seriously! Our American selves were shocked that a town of about 1000 people has this much in walking distance! It’s about an hour drive away from Dublin, but if you don't want to drive into the city proper, you could drive to a nearby down and take the Luas or bus in. And there is a possibility to get to the house using a bus to Roundwood Inn. We loved the Roundwood Stores where the artisanal local food items were being sold, the Coach House was a PHENOMENAL restaurant, and we really vibed here.
Roundwood is in the countryside. With lots of plants and greenery which we loved. Because of how verdant the location is, there comes bugs. So if you’re squeamish about them like Melquea is, it’s good to have another pair of hands to take care of them! If you're used to country living like James is, then you'll be fine.

The house was fantastic. It was so spacious, bright, clean, comfortable, and the instant favorite was the garden and patio, Melquea’s happy place. There were countless mornings and evenings spent having tea, cozied up in a blanket, journaling and working. That space really brought her a ton of deep peace to her hectic life.

***About Toby***
Gosh what a good boy. We fell in love with him and his antics. His love for belly rubs, the way he looks at you when you run with him. His graceful jumps and his excitement to go wherever you go. He was the best coworker for Melquea during her days working on the patio, and great TV buddy when James was watching a show in the living room.

Toby barely barks, only to go to the bathroom which Melquea LOVES. He’s very mild mannered, well behaved, and has very good recall.

Toby does have to have more care as he needs to frequently have water and bathroom breaks. Accidents usually happened if we were gone for longer than about two-three hours, which could be a result of anxiety, so we started taking him with us on car journeys. We didn’t take him into the city like Dublin. But he was fine in Greystones, Bray, Wicklow Town, Hook Head, and the other seaside towns. He went with us on a TON of adventures and walks.

Toby doesn’t have any leash aggression. He doesn’t have leash reactivity. He does lunge and pull when he’s thirsty and he hears water. Due to his medical condition he desires water frequently, so if you’re on a hike or a walk with him and there’s water nearby, bear in mind he WILL pull! We mitigated this by bringing water with us and having frequent breaks for him to drink. We also steered clear from steeper hikes with him for more ease.

In the car, Toby will appear to be anxious, he may shake and pant, but he’s okay. He gets in best with a treat and by sitting in the footwell of the car if it’s a smaller or regular sized vehicle. Maybe even the trunk or boot of the car, though we didn’t try it. We’d have the window open so he has fresh air and we gave him lots of “good boys” and encouragement. Melquea even held his paw during the times when she was in the backseat!

When Toby is in new places he gets very excited, so it’s best to take him for a quick walk, let him use the bathroom, and drink some water to have him calm down and regulate.

He’s not too fond of other dogs but doesn’t react to them in a negative way. He is curious about some of them though! He loves kids and he’ll love getting lots of attention from the neighbor’s kids and folks who pass by him.

Toby’s night routine starts at about dinnertime at 6. We’d feed him, let him drink water, have him go to the bathroom, and let him out a few times during the night. We stop his water intake at around 6-7pm and when we let him out, we’ll go out with him on lead so he doesn’t sneak off and drink from the pond. We give him about two tiny amounts of water at night. We go to bed pretty late (sometimes around midnight - 1am) so we’d let him out one last time and he’d be set until about 6/7am.

It seems like it’s a lot and it can be! But, once you get into the routine, it’s an easy one to fall into. This sit was perfect for the two of us, but even with one experienced dog-person, it can totally be done. He filled that dog-sized gap in James’ heart and made Melquea's heart grow 3 sizes too big. We both deeply connected with Toby and miss him dearly.

***About Macy***

Macy was a lot more hands-off with care. She needed to be fed, the litterbox changed every 3-4 days, and she LOVES to play. So you’re in for a treat! She is a very hilarious cat. 2 years old and full of energy. Her and Toby get along fine and she’ll keep you on your toes (when she’s not hunting them from under the bed!) She’ll roll around on her back. She’ll join you right outside if you draw a bath or take a shower. She made us laugh with her silliness. She’s a diva and she loves to be groomed with a long comb. She CAN escape if you’re not careful with the windows and doors. Her best recall is a shake of the treat bag and she’ll trot on back. We knew we were accepted once she hung around where we were and gave us the sweetest slow blinks. She's a wonderful cat.

All in all, this was a fantastic sit. The entire family was charming and we had a transformational time there. This was the least stressed we’ve been in a very long time and we won’t ever forget that feeling. We’re sitting for them again. No questions asked. Hands (and paws) down!

Brittany and Travis
We really feel very comfortable in our stay in the house of Brittany and her family. The house is beautiful and very comfortable. Your pet Bella is really wonderful. She is very sociable, calm, and obedient. He loves to play with his ball, run after the squirrels that walk in his park and go for walks in the neighborhood. We miss her. We recommend Brittany and her family's home stay to all pet sitters.

Truly wonderful sit! Sandra is an amazing woman, she welcomed us with a coffee and made us feel right at home. Enya, Weeman and B are absolutely adorable and we fell in love with them right away. They love cuddles (Weeman adores belly rubs) and are easy to care for. The house is perfect and right next to the pentland hills, so it was also a joy to take Enya with us on hikes (which she loved). We could've stayed there forever!
I would give 6/5 stars if I could!
