This was the third time I have used the app and the fifth time I had house sitters this year. But it definitely was the first big disappointment and made me question the overall service for future purpose. The biggest issue was communication, but this is also the one thing that can make or break the trust while you are away. When I met Sascha on video call, it didn’t seem like there was anything wrong. He also mentioned he would like to come one day earlier, which would have been helpful since he is from another city. Later, before arriving, he said not only that he cannot make it, but he will arrive after i had left - by this time he already knew my entire travel schedule. I accepted this situation naively. - On our VC I mentioned that I wouldn’t like to receive too many updates. By no means I meant NO updates. During the first 3 days I only received a 2 sec vid with my dog and a confirmation they are both ok with a 6 hr delay in response. By that moment I was already worried, so I kindly asked him to make a deal for him to send two proactive updates/day. He said okay and then absolutely ignored it by sending only a photo/day or just replying to my request that I sent when it was already afternoon and I hadn’t received anything. No texts, no reassurance, even though I calmly explained this is the only distraction and a heavy one during my holiday. - Towards the end of the stay, he informed me he needs to leave before I arrive, again raising suspicions. When I mentioned I want to do it in person, he simply said it’s not possible. I had to send some friends to make sure everything is ok. - My neighbours informed me after I came back that he wasn’t alone, which he hasn’t mentioned neither to me nor my friends during handover, only deepening the lack of trust. - some details about taking care of the house weren’t taken care of, some potentially dangerous for my dog, but the communication was so tough already that I felt like I could only bring up the essential and ignore the rest. I have no other explanation than it being intentional, as I kept everything in writing and avoided calls so I can keep track of communication. The only reason I can think of is the fact that my dog was prescribed additional treatment for a wound he got on his leg one day before Sasca arriving, so an additional task that I couldn’t inform him about well ahead of time. But just to be clear, that treatment meant 10 more minutes a day which shouldn’t be an issue for an animal lover. Otherwise I tried to make sure I am as welcoming as possible, leaving the house clean, clean bed sheets and towels, apperitives and snacks in the kitchen and money for potential extra costs. I did find the house clean and the dog is well apparently, even though his wound was clearly not treated as per the indication. But that hardly compensates all the frustration and worries I experienced for a week from the other side of the continent. This is not an AirBnb. Housesitters are entrusted with most of my belongings and my precious companion animal. I could ignore everything if I knew for a fact the dog gets a good treatment. But can I trust that this happened? The dog won’t say or show and the context is not favourable for this. Not only that I wouldn’t recommend this, but this experience put to question if I ever want to use this app in the future. And if I will, I will take all possible measures to avoid this thing happening again.

I had a wonderful sit for Mango, Monkey and Eddy in Mill Valley! Beautiful home in a a great area. Steve and Shawn made sure I had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The animals were delightful. The two cats are easy to care for with funny personalities. Eddy is a big, loyal love who will impress you with his excellent off leash skills. Plenty of great places to walk and hike and Eddy is the absolute best companion. Easy communication throughout the two weeks!

It was a pleasure to take care of Toto and also Sara & Bill's home.

The communication with Sara was excellent since the beggining. She and Bill were amazing hosts, very friendly and kind with us. We enjoyed the opportunity to share some time with them before and after his trip.

On the day of our arrival Sara picked us from the train station and explained us all the details about Toto 's routine and the house. The house is very beautiful, spacious, comfortable and the town of Malahide is an amazing place to stay. We felt like home since the moment we arrive.

Toto is a lovely, sweet and very well educated dog. We will remember every moment shared. From the lovely walks in the beach to the evenings watching TV when she use to snuggle up between us in the sofa.

This lovely experience would not have been possible without the all the help of Sara and Bill and the little Toto.

Thanks!

I absolutely loved my time with Juno in Petaluma!

Juno has such a great personality and is just as content cuddling on the couch as she is going for a long walk or playing fetch in the backyard. There are also two incredibly cute chickens, which provided delicious fresh eggs. I didn't know how much I would enjoy chickens until this stay!

Tracy's home is in a wonderful location, everything is walkable and I felt incredibly safe walking around, even late at night, as a single woman. I met a few neighbors and friends of Tracy's and they were all very kind and welcoming. I had pleasant interactions with Rick and Tracy throughout the entire stay and have no hesitation in recommending this sit to others. If the timing were to work out I'd happily come back to stay again.

Thanks again for everything!

We spent 10 days in January/Feb cuddling with sweety pie Monster, exploring Lagos and surrounding.

Lisa and David were super hosts, very generous, great communicators and helped direct us to local services. The welcome guide was thorough and very helpful. We got the train to Lagos from Faro and Lisa kindly picked us up, we had a quick handover before they left for their holiday.

Monster is a sweetie, very chatty and stayed around the house a fair bit. He loves his food and human company. He slept quietly on the bed or in front of the fire. Mr Hedgehog was fun to see and we topped up his food daily too. We happily helped give the horse and dog snacks who live in the field nearby.

Monster lives in a traditional Portuguese House surrounded by lots of greenery. It is in a rural location, yet close to Lagos and Praia da Luz, several other lovely fishing villages and stunning beaches. The house was clean and tidy for our arrival. Fresh linens and towels provided. Comfortable master bed. Closet space for our things appreciated. We did not use the pool but is it a great spot and very inviting.  It was cold in the mornings and evenings so we made full use of the  electric blanket, toasty log fire and used warm clothing left for us. We enjoyed relaxing time in the sun on the patio in the afternoons. There is an  excellent full range of TV and Movie channels available.

Lots of things to see and do or just enjoy the gardens and nature.  There are two bars/cafes, a small shop and a UK restaurant in the village, as well as a bus link. Golf Courses close by too. We appreciated the use of the mountain bikes and of course, the car.  We recommend in particular; the 5k coastal walk between Luz and Burgau, the Zoo, a day pass at the Golf and Spa Resort nearby (good gym, pool and restaurant) and the Pingo supermarket cafeteria! Supermarkets East or West direction, 15 min drive. Lagos Marina has lots of restaurants and is the place to book the boat trips.

Recommended for a true flavour of Portugal.
