We had THE MOST INCREDIBLE time with Kiwanda and Keelie in Red Hook!
Victoria and Darren are such wonderful hosts, they did a thorough walk-through their amazingly cosy place and communicated with me throughout the whole stay.
We miss Kiwanda’s kisses and Keelie’s puppy-eyes for belly-rubs. I probably have thousands of photos of these two and will keep looking through them when feeling sad.
Keelie would need some time to warm up to a person, but once she does, it is a true miracle, because she is a unique and sweet princess. Kiwanda on the other hand loves everyone, tiny ball of fur that has endless energy and desire to get all the treats in the world:)
Both puppies had a competition each evening who would sleep closer to us and made us laugh non-stop.
Red Hook is a great area with so much to offer and very dog friendly.
We will be super happy If we ever get a chance to house-sit Kiwanda and Keelie again.

This was a really lovely sit. We didn't get to meet Karen & Oli before they headed off on their trip, but I had a long video call with them and they both sent me little videos and messages to back up the very detailed Welcome Guide.

The intro to the 2 dogs Winnie & Midge did not get off to a great start - we arrived in the evening and it was dark and I think us coming in like that scared them - especially Winnie. She was very nervous of us at first - and ran out to the garden where she stayed. When I couldn't get her to come back in I rang Karen who was brilliant - she got in touch with their dog walker who knows Winnie really well and luckily lives just around the corner. Julie came over and encouraged Winnie in from the garden with her special home made treats which she then left for me to give to her. After some gentle talking, a lot of attention and fuss, and a good amount of these amazing little treats, Winnie was completely settled in. Midge, had been nervous at first but is such a laid back dog - that he settled with us immediately. And it was so lovely that the next morning when I went down to give them breakfast - they both greeted me with wagging tails and were totally relaxed. It is such a nice feeling to have the trust of an animal who doesn't know you - it is a very special thing and I really treasure it.

After that - we settled in for a very happy and enjoyable sit. Karen & Oli's house is absolutely gorgeous with big windows overlooking their beautiful garden - it is very well equipped and super comfortable. The house was spotless and everything was so well organised that we felt right at home.

And Winnie and Midge were an absolute joy to look after. They are such lovely little dogs - playful, well behaved and very affectionate. Midge followed me around and sat at my feet wherever I sat. And Winnie brought her blanket and bone for me to play with her - she likes to play tug of war with her blanket - and to have her bone scuttled along the floor so she can skid after it. And after day 2 I was honoured with her actually climbing up beside me to have a cuddle and fall asleep next to me, and by day 3 she was on my lap and licking my face! They were super easy to walk - Winnie was reluctant to go every time - but once she was out she loved her walks - and despite being so little - she managed to pull me along at times when she felt I wasn't walking fast enough. The funniest thing about both of them was just how much they sniffed every blade of grass, every leaf, every stone at the start of every walk - I got used to strolling and letting them do this for about 15 minutes or so before picking up the pace!

We both got very attached to Midge and Winnie and were sad to say goodbye to them. Thank you Karen and Oli for such a lovely sit. We hope we can come back again in the future.

Henri is the most adorable little dog, he'll become your shadow and always crave cuddles! He's really easygoing and took to me right away.

I also want to thank Mary and Ali for welcoming me as if I were family and making me feel at home!

Thank you so much for your hospitality, I hope to come back to take care of Henri again!

I had a wonderful cat sit at Leslie's place in Monterey with Felix. It is a very cute apartment, comfortable, light-filled, and has everything you need. The location was amazing, so close to Fishermans Wharf that you could hear the harbor seals barking at night.
Felix is a beautiful, strong and very smart energetic cat. It took a little while for him to trust me, but after a couple days we were fast friends. He loves to play, was super easy to care for, and it was fun to share the comfy king-sizes bed with him. He enjoyed hanging out on the patio and checking out the neighborhood.
There is so much to do in Monterey and the surrounding areas. I only wish I had more time there.
Also Leslie is super nice, gave clear instructions, and was a pleasure to deal with.
Thank you Leslie for the great opportunity!

Mattie was the Sweetest, most Protective, and Loyal Resue Dog, that I have ever met! He was my constant Companion, and our early morning and late afternoon strolls were such quiet little Adventures. I missed Him for many weeks, after coming Home.

The two Neighbors I was introduced to, were So Kind and Helpful! Offering rides into town for groceries, Welcoming me to come for Happy Hour, and Sharing Their Stories and Experiences since moving to Costa Rica. I was really Grateful to have met Them!

The Home itself was So Spectacular; like a Dream come true, to finally see Monkeys! Despite the outdoor cameras on the balconies, and the somewhat constant sense of being watched and listened to, I did get to Enjoy and Truly Appreciate the the Lovely Jungle sounds and Scenes, the almost daily but short Rainfalls, and the Tranquility of feeling like You are in a Treehouse. Sadly, this Peace only lasted for a couple of days...

This Pet, Plant, and Home Sit comes with the Possibility of Sharing the lower level of the Home and all the Common Spaces, with paying Guests (or Home Exchangers).

While this sounds okay in early conversations, in actuality, it was not quiet or Peaceful (with a newborn Baby and 3 hound type Dogs), isolating and stressful (could leave Mattie kenneled on the Patio, with 3 other Dogs in His Space and yard), and not all Relaxing. Also, partly due to there only being screens on the windows in the upper unit, and the lower patios, pool and dining areas not being very large, there really wasn't much Privacy.

So, for 5 ot the 10 days, Mattie and I were a bit stuck upstairs, trying To be quiet for the Baby, and to let the Guests enjoy the pool, Patios, lower level Spaces. It was definitely uncomfortable.

While the Beautiful Costa Rican Family of 3 Adults, a very newborn Bambino, and Their 3 cute Doggies, were All So Sweet (especially La Abuela), the Expectation of the Homeowners that Their Sitter should Prepare for, Host, Clean the Unit, and then do the laundry and bedding after Their paying Guests Departure, is
Unacceptable. Truly NOT in the Real Spirit of an equal THS Exchange or Trade...

I spent many hours over the next few days, Graciously and willingly cleaning, mopping, and preparing the lower level for Brian and Janet's return Home. At no time was there any mention of calling in the Local Cleaning Person (She walked by each day and Greeted Mattie), any offer for Compensation, or even a "Thank You" upon Their Return, as I was leaving to Travel Home, or even in their

This included multiple moppings of all the tile both inside and out, due to the Guests' Dogs peeing there over 5 days and four nights. Also disposing of poop left on the balcony, sweeping dirt and food scraps, and bathroom and kitchen cleaning, mopping, and sanitizing.

Beyond this extensive cleaning after the Guests and Their Dogs, there was also the daily sweeping of all the Patios, the courtyard, pool and dining areas, as well as the plant watering and pool skimming. Having the fridge break down a 2nd time during my Sit, 2. days before the Homeowners return, meant I needed to again transfer all the food back to the downstairs fridge. All in, I worked 4-5 hours per day, 9 days of the 10 day Sit.

The Ticas and Ticos of Costa Rica were so Kind (even on the many buses I took from Liberia to Quepos, and back, and so patient with my beginner Espanol!). Brian and Janet advised me that a rental car during the Holidays could be close to $100/day, and may not even be available. So, the Public Transportation is Great in Costa Rica, but hot! and no banos!

Again, the Home and Location is near Quepos, and really Beautiful. Close to Manuel Antinio National Park too! Mr. Mattie was the Sweetest little Gentleman, and I Truly Enjoyed my time with Him. But, I would not Sit for Brian and Janet again.

Sad for me, and so disappointing too, but I felt a real lack of Appreciation from my Hosts... After all of my extra work, and going "above and beyond" for Them and Their Guests, to not even get a "Thank You", is just hurtful. This Sit was really tough.

I Still Love Costa Rica though, and will be back! Hoping for more Peace and Relaxation too, on my next Visit to this Special Place!

Jenny and Steven welcomed me into their lovely home. Frankie is the most playful pup. He loved being out and about in the many nearby fields and meadows-and the occasional beer garden!

He's very easy to look after-feeds, sleeps, walks well on the lead (and good call back when he's able to be let off)

Steven and Jenny communicated well with me before, during and even after the sit. They were kind enough to arrange a family member to pop in and walk Frankie one day while I explored the nearby city of Bristol.
Their home was comfortable and came with all the homely amenities one would need during their stay.

Iron Acton is a pretty little rural village but you're close enough to Yate for any supplies you might need

I'd love to see my friend Frankie again one day and wouldn't hesitate in returning to sit for him again in the future

Thanks for being such gracious hosts
Happy upcoming travels!
