We had a number of diffuculties with this sit, quite unusual as we normally have wonderful housesitters from this platform. Kent & Kathy simply refused to handle the most basic of tasks, including pick up the car insurance. They came as emergency cover for sitters who had to leave suddenly due to a family emergency, and I was hasty in my selection of them. Whilst I was appreciative of their willingness to come at short notice, their behaviour was appalling.

They had a habit of simply not replying if they didn't want to tell me the truth or reply with a negative, or evaded the truth entirely. They drove the car illegally (without the paper insurance note) for the duration of their sit which was over 60 days. They refused to move to the owners villa (with the phone) until forced to. They told us the incorrect amount for the utilities to pay, one month saying it was 560 rather than say 95 or so, costing several hundred dollars which will sit there until it is whittled down. When I had service people arranged to do repair work, they assured me the work was completed, so I paid the tradesmen. This was a lie, and now I have been scammed out of thousands of dollars contributed to by their negligence. They simply refused to enter out of pocket expenses into an excel spreadsheet. They refused to enter utility bills into an excel spreadsheet.

They refused to park my car in the garage, which on the beach is an issue with salt damage. When I got my worker in to wash it he said it was filthy and had not been even hosed down. This is a major issue in the salt air. They clearly did not walk around the property regularly to check for leaks or other issues, or they would have noticed the spraying water from the broken water main beside the first villa they stayed in, which also had a verdant growth around it, easy to spot. This again was very expensive - water bill of several hundred dollars. They did not tell me of major issues like a broken hot water tank which leaked (again, expensive water bill plus a panic to get it fixed) and a faulty breaker (both in the villa they spent most of their time in). They didn't tell me there was a leak in the second villa they stayed in.

They refused to provide me with their bank details so that I could wire them funds until after they left, which made me uncomfortable as I could not arrange for some workers who had to be paid in cash. They finally had to send them well after they departed so I could reimburse them for out of pocket expenses.

I cannot be sure of everything they did not do, of course, but both of the villas they stayed in the were in a filthy state and professional cleaners were brought in for several days each.

We also had reports of exceedingly drunken behaviour," 'New Year's Eve' drunk at 9:30 at night, shouting. "

I am thankful we had no pets to care for. As it is I am out THOUSANDS of dollars.

Great sit! Lady P is a pleasure and easy to sit with. She’s mild mannered and likes to cuddle. And sometimes play with her toys.

Adam and Luis were great with communication and made the transfer simple. Adam had several nice suggestions for local activities. Basel is a fun city. The best thing to do here (if you sit in summer) is to get a wickelfisch and float down the Rhine.

Public transport is easy and reliable, and you can buy a weekly card for CHF 48,60 (July 2024) that gets you everywhere in and around Basel and even into Germany. The flat is just minutes to the train station and central Basel. If you’re particularly sensitive to noise, note the flat is close to the tram stop and rail lines, so there is some occasional noise from that. But it didn’t disturb me.

In all, 5*, I recommend this sit!

I had a lovely time with Pepe, who’s one of the cuddliest cats I’ve met and great company.

Clara and Marcel have a comfy, homely apartment in a wonderful neighbour and were wonderful in their communication, helpfulness and hospitality :)

Ben was an absolute delight to look after. He is the easiest, most undemanding cat you could ask for. He is a timid boy and it did take a few days for him to get used to us, but once he did we were rewarded with the loveliest of loud purrs when he came for a stroke and he loved playing. He is very gentle and scares easily, but with a little patience he is a lovely companion. He spends most of his day sleeping under the bed but comes to you when he feels like a bit of attention.
Jane and John were lovely hosts and invited us over for a delicious meal before the sit to show us around their house and introduce us to Ben. We had good communication before and during the sit.
Their house has an amazing view from the sitting room and two of the bedrooms and it is a half hour walk to a supermarket which has everything you need. I saw bus stops and I believe it is within walking distance of the train station too. It’s in a great position to explore the local countryside and it’s canals or to go into Birmingham.
The house is well equipped with everything you need and has a lovely small garden. There is a factory nearby which is quite noisy so if you were particularly sensitive to noise you may want to consider that but we found we got used to it quite quickly.
We would definitely recommend this sit to anyone wanting to visit the Midlands. It’s a very comfortable home with the sweetest of cats to look after.
Thank you Jane and John for choosing us to look after Ben - we really enjoyed it and would love to look after him again for you…

Angelika and Robert
Angelika & Robert were lovely hosts. From the initial communication and video chat, they were genuinely friendly & we had a good feeling about them.

They were organized, had everything prepared and treated us to dinner on our arrival which showed how much time, energy, and care they spent on the sit. Their home had anything you could need & want- places to work, beautiful kitchen, many amenities and plenty of coffee and tea to sustain us. The backyard was a sloping hill which made you feel surrounded by nature. Their hospitality went above and beyond to make us comfortable. Taking care of Schnuggl was very easy and getting to know her was a joy. I’ll never forget “door service.”

The location was safe, near a walking path, and we met some friendly neighbors. It became one of our favorite areas because of the nature, endless food choices and abundance of activities.

It was easy to communicate and coordinate with Angelika and Robert and we thank them for the opportunity to sit for them, it was a wonderful experience all-around!

Mojo was an absolute gentleman! Lots of cuddles, well behaved and just an overall sweetheart. Abby and Damian were really awesome too. They were super helpful, kind, communicative and thought of everything you might need while caring for their little guy. They also have a lovely home in a perfect location for getting around/walking/exploring/hiking. Thanks for having me!
