One of the joys of being a Trusted Housesitter is the feeling that you are actually helping people ( and their animal family) out. And , the appreciation that some people show is such a lovely thing. Christine and Keith were two such people. I could tell that they were longing for a little break from what is quite a challenging life of working and caring for two parents ( darlings ) in their 90's. So, it was really good that, eventually , things materialised whereby I could at last meet up with their two great doggies. And I do mean great. Little nosey Izzy who never missed a trick, trotting along behind me everywhere I went , almost like a little shadow. What a loving wee companion. And, dear Jess, the Husky, who in her inimitable way told me lots of stories and welcomed me home , every time I had been out. Such a pleasure to take out and , given that I happened to be there during the Harvesting in the fields , it was just idyllic. Chrissie had prepared everything she could think of ,to make sure that my stay was comfortable. And she succeeded. I lacked nothing. Peace , in a wonderful unique courtyard dwelling in the grounds of a hall , redolent of history. Birdsong to wake me up, and beautiful early Autumn sunsets over the golden fields. Bingham itself , the nearest town ,perfect too. Big enough to stock up, but small enough to feel the atmosphere of a country market town where life went on at a pleasant pace. I very much liked Bingham, and was greeted with great genuine,,friendliness. And, of course . Nottingham is stunning. Beautiful architecture and as much shopping as you could want . And only about half an hour away. All in all , my only sadness was that I had to say goodbye too soon to Izzy and Jess. I can tell you, I had a big lump in my throat as I drove off. Those two girls had put a big paw print on my heart. Many many thanks Chrissie and Keith .
Had a lovely sit with two lovely whippets in a lovely home and location and thanks to Sarah and Neil for their enjoyable company
What a delight it was to discover Deventer thanks to Robyn and her family needing a sitter! They were great with communication, quickly answering all our questions, were very laid back and made us feel very comfortable coming to their home and staying with their 3 fur babies while also encouraging us to explore the area including a day trip to Amsterdam! They were generous in welcoming us with some wine and snacks, which was so appreciated after a very long and delayed travel day. We sadly never met them in person, which we'd have loved to do, but communicated enough to feel we did. The dogs are so chill and love human attention and cracked us up. Woody is hilarious and loves to dance and does not show his age! Charlie loves (as does Woody) to be brushed and all three compete for attention in the most endearing way. If you pet one, the other two are right there "me too, me too!" - it was so adorable. The best thing of all for us, was discovering Deventer, which we had never even heard of. A truly lovely town, large enough to be interesting and small enough to be charming. We never would have gone there and are so very glad we did!! Robyn and Sean kindly left us two bikes which was the BEST part of spending time in the Netherlands! Bike culture is amazingly developed and impressive. We appreciate very much that they trusted us with their car, and thankfully only needed it once for a big grocery shopping trip. The only heads up I'd give potential sitters is to be sure you're comfortable with the rather steep stairs which I understand are typical in many Dutch homes. No issue for us and stairs help keep us fit! :) We HIGHLY recommend sitting for Robyn and Sean if you get the chance - even if it means a detour from your travels - go discover Deventer and their friendly easy-going fur family! You won't regret it!
I had a wonderful time at William's house. The animals were so easy to look after and the house was quirky and homely. The tasks I had to do for the animals were well explained by William. The feeling of sleeping in a house 600 years old on my own was a new experience for me. I wondered who had been sleeping in my room before me for how many generations.........Thank you, William for the delicious eggs and the walks across your fields.
We loved our stay with Autumn and Finley- they were such easygoing, sweet pups. Kelsey welcomed us into her home and got us acquainted. A very simple sit, really. Finley is a spunky lil guy who will definitely make you laugh. Autumn is very calm, NEVER loses at tug o’ war (even with me), she likes dark, quiet places to rest (like myself). They’re almost always up for a game of fetch but you have to engage them- they LOVE it. Finley slept with us a few nights- he likes to take the best spot- right in the very middle. The condo is lovely and the views are mesmerizing. We saw whales (with binoculars Kelsey provided). The pool was slightly heated so no shock in getting in. We would happily sit for them again!
I had the pleasure of house-sitting for Dana and I must say, it was an amazing experience. The house was beautiful, big and clean, and it had everything I needed for my stay. The barbecue grill was an added bonus! Dana's two dogs, Rico and Teo, were well-behaved and a delight to take care of. The kitten, Houdini, was very active and followed me around everywhere, making my stay even more enjoyable. I also appreciated the two hidden cats, Mittens and Rex, who added to the peaceful atmosphere of the house. Overall, I had a wonderful time house-sitting for Dana and Brian and their pets. I would highly recommend this sit and her pets to anyone looking for a memorable house-sitting experience.
