Christine and Brian’s home is gorgeous and comfortable, especially the immaculate guest suite! Gourmet kitchen, little gym downstairs and lovely location outside of Truckee. The kitties are sweet and easy. Fresh baked bread a special treat!
We thoroughly enjoyed our sit for these folks. They provided explicit details about their home and pets in person and in the welcome guide. They were always available by email and answered quickly. Their home is well kept and very comfortable and their cats became great companions very quickly. We would highly recommend caring for their home and 'pet' family anytime.
Kate is such a friendly and warm person ! She made my arrival so much smoother with thoughtful gestures, like leaving a welcome gift hamper (with teas, chocolate, Berlin’s booklet guides, facial mask, covid mask, etc.). Notes in the house to help with the daily utilities. And a panel for sitters that came, to leave a message ! These little details made me feel home. Ruby has also such a lovely and happy personality ! This was my first dog sitting and I found her very easy going and well behaving. Walking her was an easy task. She’s also very playful and would come often with her elephant doll to play fetching (I had so much fun hiding it behind my back and having her looking everywhere and at me with suspicion in her eyes haha). She was also super cute, sleeping on your knees, cheering you up in the morning. Very cuddly. My overall experience was truly amazing, thank you Kate for your trust and caring gestures!
Archie is a very, very sweet rescue dog. I enjoyed getting to know him, but he would only be a good fit for someone patient and noncoercive. He's great at civil disobedience, as he will stop or sit down in the face of too much pushing, demanding, or interrupting something he thinks he needs to do. When he stops while walking, or doesn't want to change directions, kindly yet assertively lifting his front half to face him in the right direction usually works. When he doesn't want to get out of human beds or a room, that is harder. Archie has tasted the pleasures of connecting with a human by sleeping with them/cuddling on their bed, and he seems to miss this very much, sneaking into your bed whenever you aren't looking and hoping you won't force him out. I enforced this rule, but it was honestly unpleasant. He's heavy, and it's quite difficult to lift him if he turns onto his back (signaling subservience in dog behavior), which he probably does pleadingly thinking he's in trouble or he's being rejected/pushed away because there's something wrong with him (having been accepted and welcomed in bed before). He exhibits some guarding/vigilant behaviors like needing to face out and assess his surroundings while going to the bathroom or when sitting or leaning on you (turning his back to you because it feels safer and he trusts you'll watch it). He also slept, sat, or leaned on my feet outside a few times, which I've seen rescues/abandoned dogs do because it means they know you're not leaving and will wake up if you move. Archie's parents have a lot of very sweet rituals for him, and it's adorable how they try to enrich his life/engage him in play. If you want to see Hillsboro, like caretaking rescues, and are impressed by a big yard and garden, go ahead and apply. Hillsboro wasn't on my list, so it was a pleasant surprise.
We had a wonderful time caring for Argos. He is very easy to watch. Everything was provided by Miranda and Cris to make our stay comfortable. We hope they will ask us again sometime.
The contact with Elsa was smooth and easy. Beforehand we videochated, so I got an impression of Elsa, flat and Filou. The written informations were super clear. Filou is a gentle lovely cat. He has hiding places all over the flat. He quite often talked to me...either saying hello, wondering what was on my plate...or telling me clearly, he wanted to be brushed. He loved it. I felt good in the flat, cosy and warm. Cool there is a busstation right in front. Thanks for your trust Elsa.
