Sophia was very reliable when taking care of my two cats and was quite self sufficient. The place was very clean and orderly when I came back and the kitties were well fed and happy!
When we confirmed Dave to sit for us, he only had one review on this site, a 5-star review. He did have several reviews on another site, and they were good reviews. On the day of our departure, after we'd left home, another review was posted for him from the sit he'd finished just before he came to our house. That review was not all 5-stars, and had that one been posted before, we would not have confirmed Dave as our sitter. When Dave arrived, one of the first things he told us is that he's an Uber driver and that he would be turning his app on and he hoped to get calls. He also said he hoped he didn't get a call that would take him away all night. Had we known, beforehand, that Dave would be taking Uber calls, we wouldn't have confirmed him; especially if there was a chance he might be gone for several hours. We told Dave that we wanted a sitter for two reasons. First because Kitty is 21 years old and we don't want her left alone for long periods of time. Second, because we live in the country and our neighbors have told us that when no one is home, they've seen people snooping around our home. So, we want someone here. We also told Dave that we would be 6+ hours away, so we wouldn't be home, on Thursday, until after lunch. He said that was fine; he said his next sit was scheduled for Thursday, but was only a couple of hours away, and that would give him plenty of time to get there. My husband and I both felt uneasy about leaving Dave at our house, but didn't know what else to do since he was already here. Unfortunately, on the day we were returning, at 11:15 AM, Dave texted me and asked what time we would be home because he had to leave at NOON! I told him we wouldn't be home until about 3, and he said he'd leave our garage and gate remotes in our mailbox!! When we left, we were hoping for the best. But we came home to the worst: CONS: 1) Sticky food stains on all kitchen countertops 2) Appears to have been a food explosion in the microwave, and was not cleaned up 3) Dirty kitchen sink; dried food 4) Stove was dirty 5) Floors throughout house were dirty 6) Guest bed was stripped, sheets thrown on floor 7) Dirty towels left in bathroom 8) Urine on floor around toilet 9) Shower dirty; large amount of hair stuck in shower drain and baby powder all over shower (inside and out!) 10) Dirty counters in bathroom 11) Food spilled on coffee table, in living room, and left there 12) Kitty's bowl didn't appear to have been washed 13) We have a deer feeder, but Dave spread the deer corn in the grass, just off the back patio. Now the deer are eating our newly planted grass! 14) Dave left the flood lights on all night; our neighbor called us in the middle of the night (while we were gone) because the lights shine into her house. 15) He put remnants of wild animal food in the garbage can from the garage, then brought it into the house; this just invites mice, etc. into our house. 16) He left our mail in the garage (if he had read the Welcome Packet, he would have seen that I have a basket labeled "mail" so that the mail doesn't get overlooked or misplaced) PROS: 1) Our 21 year old cat was alive when we got home 2) Thank God, no one found the remotes in our mailbox Organized - I feel like if Dave were more organized, he wouldn't have scheduled his next sit so early in the day of our return, knowing we had a 6+ hour drive home. Reliable - Obviously, not reliable, when he left the way into our home in the mailbox for anyone to access! Self-Sufficient - With two empty trash receptacles in the kitchen, he brought in a garbage can from the garage; texts us to ask where the bird seed for the feeder is, after my husband went over that with him, before we left the house, texted us to ask where a colander is Tidy - Came home, after a 6+ hour drive, to immediately start cleaning the house. We worked for 2 1/2 hours today with, at least, another hour to go tomorrow. If I could have given a negative number on this one, I would have. Pet Care -She had food, although her bowl appeared to have not been washed while we were away. She seemed to be starved for affection, which she has never shown signs of before.
Chad and Marla did a fantastic job. They were communicative, kind, polite and considerate. They obviously love the animals and spent a ton of time doting on them, walking them, taking photos and updating us when possible (we were in a spot with almost no service). We came home to a spotless home, clean sheets, folded towels and very happy critters. In fact, I think our dogs are a bit depressed that they're no longer here. We're hoping they'll come back to our crazy zoo in the future!
This was a great sit. The apartment is very comfortable and in a great location. I’m in love with Eindhoven and had a great day out in nearby Venlo. Biggie is a lovely cat that was very easy to look after. Anzita was very welcoming and made me feel very comfortable as soon as I arrived. I would definitely come back here, it’s a great little city break with Biggie letting you know she is available for a few strokes every now and then :)
