We had a great time pet sitting for Gillie, Mac and Steve. Clear instructions and very well trained dogs who are so much fun! We really loved the house, the outdoor space and the location - Janette, Paul and the boys all lovely and welcoming. Would recommend to anyone.
Unfortunately, this housesitting experience didn't meet our usual high expectations. The Good Things: Yuca and Balu, the dogs, were absolutely delightful. Yuca's boundless love and constant companionship, along with Balu's adorable puppy eyes, were truly heartwarming. They thrive on care and affection, giving even more in return. Their good training and responsiveness to commands made our walks (and runs) smooth and enjoyable. However, we had two incidents with the dogs and were grateful to have them on a leash (in one occasion even the leash could not hold Balu and it broke to pieces), so we strongly recommend keeping them leashed for safety. Cali was very friendly and loved being petted, though we wished she spent more time with us as she was often out of sight. Samba was a bit wary of strangers (or perhaps just us), so we didn’t get to enjoy her company much. Esmeralda, the last cat, faithfully showed up for her dinner outside the house, which was a sweet routine. Anna kindly picked us up from the airport, and Barbara drove us back on our departure day, which was a tremendous help. They also lent us jackets since the weather was cooler than expected, which was a lifesaver on chilly nights. Things That Were Not As Expected But Did Not Affect Our Experience: Having a car available was essential and very helpful, although it was shared and required coordination with the other user. There were some minor misunderstandings about this, but we managed to figure it out. We mention this because it wasn’t described in the listing. The private pool wasn’t ready for use, which was a bit disappointing as it would have been nice to use it during the last 10-15 days when the weather was finally warm. Things That Made Our Stay Difficult: We were looking forward to a tranquil place to enjoy the view and relax by the pool, but this was disrupted by a construction crew of 5-6 workers demolishing a small room next to our accommodation and building a new one. This ongoing construction was not communicated to us prior to our arrival or even when we were there. On the first day, we were informed about workers fixing a water issue, which we understood needed immediate attention. But the thing is that after that, the workers came day after day and started doing all kinds of constructions. When Anna and Barbara left, they just told us “The workers will be here on Monday but you do not need to do anything”. So the workers came on Monday. And Tuesday. And Wednesday. It was very clear when we applied that we work remotely and we will not be there on vacations, which is a bonus for every owner since we spend a lot of time with the pets. The workers were fixing the floor outside our office, demolishing a small room next to our accommodation and building a new one, making obviously too much noise (there was just one wall with a window between us and workers just 2-4 meters away) so it was impossible to work. Even when we asked them if the workers were going to keep coming all week, they did not inform us that they will not only come this week but the next 4 weeks until we leave. They just asked what the problem was (which I guess is pretty obvious). To be honest they tried to fix by telling the workers not to make noise at specific times, but this was beyond fixing. We should plan every working day with the workers, make their life difficult, putting us on the spot and still get the same amount of noise during the day, again on working hours. At no point we had sufficient information (when applied, before arriving or even during our stay) about this even though they had many opportunities to do so. The communication was poor. We always enjoy welcoming homeowners back with a nice meal after their trip, but our attempts to coordinate their return day and time went unanswered, making us feel awkward. Our WhatsApp updates received minimal to no feedback, even when we informed them about the need to restock the dog food. We had to follow up after 1-2 days to learn that the food was restocked, since it wasn’t communicated to us. Our housesitting was until the 09 June and we expected them on that date. But on the 7th we came back to the house in the afternoon just to realize that they have arrived. That was made clear to us when we realized that someone was in the house while we were away. This made us feel really uncomfortable. Having the workers around all the time made us feel like we had no privacy. We could see and hear the workers talking, working, singing, and more, and they could probably hear and see us too. While it's understandable that workers can't work in complete silence, it was unacceptable to be put in this situation without prior notice. Being informed about the ongoing construction beforehand would have allowed us to decide if this is one housesitting we would like to do, which would definitely would not be our decision. We are not aware of many persons that enjoy the above described situation. We hope this review will help the owners provide better housesitting experiences in the future.
Our stay at Clover's could not have been better. The family was very attentive in receiving us and very flexible. The house is beautiful and very comfortable, clover is a very lovely dog and it was wonderful to be able to spend a few days with her. We are very happy that they trusted us, our Christmas and New Years with Clover were special. You are a beautiful family and you are lucky to have Clover as a pet.
I absolutely loved my sit for Nala, Patricia and Andy and if our dates align again, I would sit for them again in a heartbeat. Their home is clean and uncluttered and they have many windows and sliding doors out onto their yard and to their decks with wonderful views over the bay. The location of their home is in the hills in a quiet, hilly neighborhood -- which means when you walk Nala, you get great exercise and are rewarded with many beautiful views of the Bay. And there are many great walks close by, including a very large, peaceful cemetery also with great views and a lot of wildlife. Patricia and Andy are warm and welcoming; they easily showed me around and told me about everything I needed to know; Patricia even took the time to show me how to get to some of their favorite walks. Last but most certainly not least, Nala is truly a sweetheart and I can guarantee you'll fall in love with her very quickly. She is gentle, smart, playful, affectionate, and warms up to you easily, likes to hang out with you but is not one of those clingy dogs who needs to follow you around all of the time. 95% of the time she is great with all dogs but about 5% she will bark and pull but is easily controlled. She loves to say 'hi' to other humans and they, like me, are generally enamored with her. I received many compliments as to the great dog I have (-: I definitely can highly recommend sitting for Nala.
Tazzy is a friendly easy going cat. She s playful and cuddly and knows exactly what she wants - spending time with her was fantastic. Elaine was so welcoming and nice. She explained everything to me and even sent all the details I needed for my stay in PDF. Highly recommend
We had a fantastic time looking after Aggie and Jessie, in the most amazing location! Both dogs are very affectionate, great fun and very well behaved. With such vast surroundings, they soon educated us upon the way around their many and varied walks within the estate, and to be able to enjoy walks along the river bank and through unspoilt countryside, was a real pleasure. Jules and Roddy were very welcoming and whilst Roddy took the time to give us a comprehensive guided tour of the estate, which is a nature lovers paradise. Jules was busy preparing a lovely lunch and also explained everything to us, that we were likely to need. The cottage is delightful and very comfortable. It is surrounded by nature, with Squirrels, Deer and an abundance of birds to be seen from sunrise to sunset......an ideal place to sit in the garden and relax with nature. This can only be described as a wonderful pet sit and hopefully, we will be able to return in the future meet up with them all again!
