We have completed almost 30 sits with THS. Our time with Leia, Vegas and the chickens ranks with the very best. From the beginning this sit had a good feel. We had an introductory Facetime conversation with Dawn and Robin and, throughout our stay, lots of positive communication, mostly via WhatsApp. The conversation flowed easily, and Dawn responded promptly and helpfully to any query. Upon our arrival, Dawn and Robin greeted us warmly, and provided a comprehensive walk-through and briefing on their impressive home. This was supplemented by ample and clear information in the welcome guide. Even an abbreviated sheet of key points for handy reference! We met all family members and began the sit already feeling integrated and appreciated. Home is a few kilometres south of Calgary city limits, in pleasant rolling countryside. A car is necessary. The house is modern, roomy, and with all amenities – super practical and comfortable. Robin has carved trails through their acreage block – great for walking with Leia. Sometimes Vegas accompanied! On warm days, after a decent walk, Leia enjoyed a dip in a dam on the property. A cooler but muddy dog resulted; a dedicated dog shower in the laundry proved a perfect remedy! The property provides more than ample room for dog walking and play. Beyond, Leia also enjoyed strolls to a nearby neighbourhood, where walking paths circumnavigate three small lakes. Leia has strength which isn’t always apparent; paying attention to her lead is sensible when in proximity to other animals or humans. Caring for the chickens was straight forward; collecting eggs a daily bonus. Dawn also invited us to self-pick from their impressive vegetable garden – delicious home-grown peas, and crunchy carrot, how nice! There is an extensive, automated, home irrigation system. Apart from watering a few pots, and checking that irrigation water was reaching its destination, the home and vegetable gardens largely looked after themselves. With several agreeable outside siting areas, we just had to enjoy them! Leia and Vegas were the stars of this sit. Both exceptional. In human company, Vegas is the friendliest, most satisfied cat imaginable. Still surprisingly athletic for a 12 year-old, Vegas has a wonderful demeanour, impressive grey whiskers, and never says no to being stroked or a sit on a lap! With her approved inner circle, Leia is similarly happy to receive attention, and instantly ready for play or a walk. Dawn had kindly cautioned that Leia can be stand-offish on first meet. With us, Leia was relaxed and positive; her intelligence and empathy was always apparent. For the first couple of days exploring the trails, and always outside the property, Leia walked on a (mainly long) lead. Both parties quickly built confidence in what was on the other end of the lead! Leia is obedient and a delightful walking companion; she brings joy to every outing. In the home, Leia was somehow mostly close to our side. Or else strategically located on an intercept path between us and the door! Overall, we enjoyed the company of Leia and Vegas enormously. Still missing them as we pen these notes. In summary, this is a top sit, with a top family, in a most agreeable setting, and with outstanding animal company. Very welcoming people and easy to communicate with. Great location with beautiful surroundings. Gidi is a sweet cat who enjoys sleeping a lot. But we still had a good time.
My experience housesitting Meg's house was great! Her pup, Argus, is the sweetest friend to have around and her house was so beautiful had everything you could need. Looking forward to being back!
