Denae and Burl did many things right: The house was clean and tidy when I returned, with nice touches like new flowers and tea. They were easy to communicate with, were quick to connect with Yudie, and they were flexible when a family need meant I had to extend my dates. They are very nice people! I would recommend them for a dog with low to moderate exercise and play needs. My pup is an Aussie who's used to getting a lot of outdoor time and attention. On my return, several neighbors reported (without me asking) that they never saw the sitters or Yudie outside, and photos showed a few outings but not the usual happily romping/running dog. Unlike with usual sits, I am not really sure what happened. I did wind up paying for two afternoons of additional "doggie group hikes" to be sure Yudie had that outlet. So if your dog is easy-going, by all means go with Denae and Burl; if your dog is very active, maybe think twice.

Emily
Loved sitting for Emily and her family—Pico was an exuberant, entertaining, cuddly and undemanding kitty; house was lovely, clean, comfortable (as weather was gorgeous, we especially enjoyed our times outside—sunsets from the backyard with a glass of port or local wine were spectacular).

Communications through THS or WhatsApp were easy and answered promptly.

While there was a bit of construction on-site, workers were respectful of our presence and Emily made us aware ahead of time that they would be there.

Unless you’re a walker or Uber user (inexpensive) a car is helpful. The nearest train station (under 5 minute drive but at least 15 minute walk) has infrequent trips back and forth into Porto center. The metro station is about a 20 minute drive. With a car, you can do anything/go anywhere.

As Pico was our main focus and an independent indoor/outdoor cat, we were able to spend a nice chunk of each day exploring Porto and Giai—lovely places.

We are appreciative of Emily and her family for picking us to sit for Pico and care for their home and gardens—and giving us the chance to experience this amazing part of Portugal from a more local perspective.

We highly recommend this sit.

The owner, Emma, was also amazing, very communicative and always willing to help.
