Julie replied to our very last-minute (hopeful!) post to find someone else to care for our pets when we were going away for the Christmas/NY week. Julie sent a lovely message, reaching out to let us know that she was keen, and we set things up easily over a few quick messages. We didn’t actually get to meet, as our family had already left when Julie arrived, but we communicated via messages in the app for any questions - I was appreciative of Julie being ok with all of that 😊 Our home was clean and tidy on our return, sheets washed and the cats were relaxed and content, showing no worry that we had been away for a week. We have chickens too, who were equally happy and clucking when we came home - all was well in the chook yard I would happily recommend Julie to anyone looking for someone who is reliable, self-sufficient, organised and communicates well, to care for their pets and home while away. Dennis and Brenda were wonderful sitters for both Bentley and our home. Everything was left neat and clean as before, they even left a little card and gift for us, very sweet. It was lovely to meet them and maybe our paths will cross again in the future. We would recommend them for dog sitting for sure.
My sit at the Todd’s place in Texas was very interesting. We were aware of and abided by the restrictions from Coronavirus threats. I travel alone in my RV. I had been isolated for several months and the homeowners were just venturing out on travel. I arrived the afternoon before they left for their vacation, so we had a chance to visit and check out the routine of care for the hens, birds and rabbit. I enjoyed meeting Greg and Cher and seeing their house. Their photos, wall art, and other collectables illustrate the places they have traveled and enjoyed. Their house is warm and cosy and the guest bed is very comfortable! This sit location is a five minute walk from the small town which has a library (limited access due to Coronavirus), some eclectic shops, a grocery store, several banks and churches, a genealogy center, and several restaurants and pizzarias. I enjoyed walking to town and meeting the locals --- there were no protests or riots in this rural Texas town. The hens produce a lot of eggs daily! When I accepted this sit, I figured I would have to reach under the chicken to get the eggs. Greg trained his chickens to lay the eggs and then leave the coop. Good idea! I remember years ago when I would get pecked at for “stealing” the egg from underneath the hen and I wasn’t looking forward to doing that again. Not an issue at this sit. The rabbit was friendly and begged for more snacks. I grabbed handfuls of clover and sourgrass for it as I walked around the town park as it liked these grasses. The pigeons and quail were quiet birds and easy to feed and water. Greg has everything set up for easy access and care. They took the two dogs with them so I had no housemates. Keeping the wild bird feeders filled, the plants watered, and keeping the berries, tomatoes, and cucumbers picked were also chores I completed for them. Their property is large and because of the potential for rain and mud, I would recommend bringing a pair of boots to slip on for outside work. Don’t want to be cleaning up the house from tracking dirt and other matter inside. Also, I generally wear sandals and they don’t fare well in the chicken coop. Chickens were attracted to toenail polish…. must be a new bug? Snack time! Ouch! Wear boots….. I would recommend this sit for anyone who wants a taste of country living and small town life. Dallas is about an hour’s drive away for anyone who needs a “city fix”.
We have had the most wonderful week looking after Mutley and Rafi in a beautiful location. The animals were both so loving and easy to care for, we enjoyed our dog and cat walks! We wouldn’t hesitate to sit for Miranda and Alex again.
