Catherine took such great care for Betty & the Goats while we were away including special treats. She even emptied and put away the dishwasher as well as had clean sheets on the guest bed. I would highly recommend her and Bret!

Kim is a very nice, easy to get along with person. She communicated well and clearly before the sit, showed up to everything on time, and my dog seemed to like her the instant she arrived for our meet & greet, which was a huge plus. The pets were in good health when we returned home, and the house was relatively tidy.

However:
- Our downstairs absolutely reeked of cat pee when we got home. After looking around, we noticed that while the litter box had been partially cleaned, almost the entire bottom layer was solidly clumped, indicating that it hadn't been really cleaned in some time - maybe not for the entire time we were away. Just the top had been scooped and covered with clean litter. As a result, the cats had started peeing outside of the litter box, soaking and ruining the rug in that room. It's important to note that not once, in 17 years, have either of the cats peed outside the litter box. I get that cleaning clumping litter is gross and can be a pain, but this is basic stuff, and Kim's inattention unfortunately ruined a costly piece of furniture.

- I messaged Kim about the rug, and to discuss whether she'd be willing to cover the cost of replacing it, and have had no response in the last 4 days.

- Also as a result of the litter box not being cleaned, the downstairs was covered in muddy paw prints from the cats using wet litter.

- Both our front and back doors were unlocked when we arrived home from our trip - about 2.5 hours after Kim had departed. Our neighborhood is relatively safe, but occasionally people try doors and windows to see if there's an easy opportunity. I made it clear in both the home guide and in direct communication that it was important to keep the doors and windows locked when no one was home.

- There were multiple cat puke stains around the house. Those can get missed, but one appeared to be intentionally covered up, which indicates she just didn't want to clean them up. I get that it's gross, but it's part of caring for cats.

- Her communication during the sit was infrequent. Early on in our trip, we went two full days without hearing anything from her, until I messaged her to make sure everything was okay. This might be okay for some people, but as this was our first time using a house sitter I was super nervous leaving our elderly cats and beloved dog with a stranger. I thought I made my anxiety pretty clear, and she promised daily communication. It turned out to be more like every 2-3 days.

I think Kim is a good person, and she seems to have treated the pets well, litterbox issues aside. However, I hope that she pays more attention to detail in future sits to avoid these issues.

Also, as a note for people looking for a sitter through this site: the damage coverage they provide has a minimum claim value of $1000, so be aware that if a sitter causes damage to your place, you'll be on the hook for anything less than that.

Karen was super friendly and did a wonderful job caring for our dogs. They were all well taken care of and were so happy when we arrived home.
