Rebecca was fabulous. She arrived a day early so she could get the routine and become familiar with everything. As luck would have it she showed up during trying times..extreme heat, smoke from fires, extremely dry conditions and a calf that kept escaping from the pasture. None of this was a problem. Rebeccca was really good about giving us updates in the morning to show us everything was fine. Rebecca honestly cares and took great care of our dog and chickens. Before leaving she washed the sheets and towels and topped off the fuel in the car. The house was left in really good condition. We would be happy to have Rebecca back in the future!
Ronnia and Joe communicated well as we set up the sit. We arrived the night before their departure. Ronnie and Joe walked us through their beautiful home and Rahrr's daily needs.They were well-organized with space preparations (prepping our guest room and bath), written instructions, and providing a list of back-up helpers in case of any challenges. Best of all, Rahrr was just as they told us she would be; charming, well-mannered and open to affection from new people. We loved Rahrr and her space and would sit for her again any time.
We had a magical stay at Sara and Eugene's house. Communication was good before, during and after. We found the house easy to find with Sara's instructions and WhatThreeWords. We had a bit of difficulty getting up the last bit of slightly rocky road the first time as there was some sand as well, but we fixed that the following day with a bit of raking and a bit more speed and confidence on other occasions! We had a lovely evening meal with Sara and Eugene, and were chatting so much that we missed the first half of France versus Spain (or was it Portugal?!) - ouch! The house is located on a small hill and overlooks the valley below and opposite, all mainly filled with trees - just a lovely, calming view. We loved the setting and as we'd had a hectic time before the sit, and had driven from the UK, we rather enjoyed not visiting the region that much, just going to the nearby towns for coffee (once tied in with the local market at Tavernes) and Toto Vino in Barjols which was excellent. It's possibly worth getting the tourist guide for Barjols in order to visit it's 26 fountains! The intermarche there is excellent (recommend the sausages in the butchers section). The town is very much perched on a hill side so park in the main parking area, don't try to go further by car into the town. We enjoyed La Cooperative la Tavernaise for oil and a tour of the oil making area (very quick). Varages has a nice cafe and butchers. Otherwise we just enjoyed taking Benji for his walks and lazing around the house and pool, reading! It was so totally relaxing. Both Benji and Ruby were simply delightful company - present but not needy, friendly but independent....Benji loves his walks and first thing would roll in some sand at the beginning to show his delight. He got quite a few burrs but wasn't so keen on them being taken off! Don't be lulled into thinking he cannot sprint off - we put a lead on just around the area where there are some dogs it's preferable he doesn't visit, otherwise he was off lead. Ruby has beguiling eyes and a big character - and would confidently intimate that I hadn't fed her enough (I even had to check the feeding instructions!). They were so nice to be around, and would come and sit nearby us in the lounge or if we sat out under the stars in the evening. The house is simple but has everything we needed. It was a good time to appreciate life. Thank you Sara and Eugene for choosing us!
